bowhunter, sounds like your backup lights are being turned on at the wrong times. Start up the car and have the rear windows down (so you can hear into the car). Walk behind the car and see if the backup sensors are sounding as you get close to the car. If they are, are your back up lights on too? If they are, then your problem lies in either a bad wiring problem or your reverse relay is stuck on. You can pull relay R17 (under the dash) if you have an earlier X-Type (ie, before March 2004) or relay R9 on the later models. If the reverse lights remain on, then you have a wiring issue. If they go off, then odds are your reverse relay is bad and is sticking. If replacing the relay doesn't cause the problem to go away, then let me know and we can take things from there.

If you want to get into the wiring to figure things out, then let me know and I will assist however I can. Just need to know how comfortable you are around wiring.

Thanks Thermo.....
I will try that and see.
Don't think I have ever seen reverse lights on when I have walked behind it when car was running but will definetely give this test a shot.
I will let ya know results soon.
