X-Type Reversing Lights and Rear Park Sensors
Hi all, I would certainly appreciate some advice. I have a 2007 2.2D X-Type with Manual Transmission and both the Reversing Lights and Rear parking sensors have stopped working. I have tested the reversing switch under the battery and it is functioning. I have checked the fuses that I have found indicated in the Haynes manual and they are intact, although the manual is very generic and so I am not certain about it's accuracy. There is no sound from the sensors on engaging reverse. The reversing light lamps are good. There is no audible ticking from the rear sensors. The front sensors still work and the speaker works. It seems to me that as both the reversing light and sensors have stopped it would be likely a shared issue and a fuse seems most likely (or is there a relay?). Any thoughts welcomed and thank you in advance!

The front and rear sensors are all run off the same module powered by the same single power supply, but the rear sensors require the reversing lights to come on before they will operate. The module is probably OK.
As the reversing lights don't work, you need to check that there is a 12v supply to the reversing light switch on the gearbox and that when in reverse, that 12v is actually switched to the reversing lights. The fuse for that supply is F34, 10A in the glove box fuse panel and the wiring is all Green/Black. There is no relay involved.
I'm assuming that all the other rear lights work and thus there is not a ground fault.

Guy1, the quick check I would do is to pull the plug off of the tranny switch. Now, using a paperclip, plug the paperclip into the plug. This should force the reverse lights to come on. If they come on, then this confirms a bad reverse switch. If the reverse lights do not come on, measure from the paper clip to ground using a multimeter. Do you have 12 VDC? If no, then odds are you have a bad fuse. If yes, then you have a bad wire between that plug and the back bumper of your car. Unfortunately, to determine where the wire is bad, you will have to hand over hand the wiring to see where the damage is.
