X Type Zetec Turbo 300-350 bhp engine swap
I posted a similar question yesterday but I think this title better captures my point.
I recently purchase a Ford Fiesta based Quantum H4 kit car for my son, very obviously not a Jaguar!
One of the Quantum owners is modifying his car to incorporate the engine gearbox and drivetrian from the MK1 Mondeo 4x4 which are very scarce.
My thought was would it be possible to use the X Type manual gearbox and drive train in the same way as it is Ford Based and more prolific.
One intriguing thought on this for X Type owners wanting more performance is that by using a Ford Focus st170 bottom half (stronger than standard) with a Zetec 2.0 head (no VVT easier to turbocharge and control from an ECU veiwpoint) and then adding a turbo and stand alone engine management system about 300 to 350 bhp is very achievable.
I was primarily wondering if the Zetec engine would 'mate' to the X type 4WD manual gearbox without too much trouble.
Even more power is available, 400 of even 500 bhp is possible but then the cost and complexity goes up, and the reliability can go down.
Regards
Andrew

I'm fairly sure drivetrain (mainly the AWD transfer case) reliability will be going down when approaching 300bhp, not to mention going above that. Some say the transfer case can't reliably handle more torque than the 3.0V6 pumps out, though on the other hand there's a member on the UK forum with an Arden-tuned 300-300bhp or so X-Type and he has not reported issues with the drivetrain.

andrewow47, if you used the whole drivetrain (ie, motor, transmission, and transfer case) from the Fiesta setup, then yes, you can possibly have a very quick X-Type. But, if you plan on using the factory transfer case from the X-Type, like was said, plan on lots of problems. Now, with this being said, one of the other members also noted that the bearings were not properly loaded from the factory and there is a kit that will properly pre-load the bearings. This may allow you to go higher in the power. But, what would be "safe", that is hard to say. I don't know enough about the transfer case to make a logical guess.
