Xtype OBD codes P0300,P0302,P0306,P1316
Got some codes that came up when I started my car after work, in the morning time I had a rough idle upon a cold start up (10 degrees) my rpm's dropped below 500 almost died out..after a few minutes it eventually steadied out. Anyone know or experience this with their car? The codes are pretty much misfires and I'm not sure what P1316, if someone knows that code that will help as well.
Thanks James |
Looks like your #2 & #6 cylinders are misfiring.P0300 is random misfire & P1316 is misfire excess emission.

James,
I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X-Type forum. This is the place to post tech questions about your model. Here's the possible causes of P1316 from the Jaguar DTC listing: Attachment 64993 (click on the image to enlarge it) Graham |

Nox, I would first start with simply removing the plugs and seeing if you have oil in the plug holes. It is possible that over time you have gotten some oil in there and it is causing the plugs to arc straight to the block of the engine vice sparking inside the cylinder. that would result in the P1316 (excessive emissions on bank 2). If you don't have oil in the plug wells, then I would try swapping one of the coils with the one on cylinder #4 and seeing of the codes move to #4 and whatever cylinder that you didn't move. That would help prove that the coil is toast. You are lucky in that the cylinders in question are the ones on the front of the engine and are the easier ones to get to.

Ah yeah that's a good idea I'll check it out. Yeah I'm glad it's the front ones it makes it heck of a lot easier

Attachment 65055 Attachment 65054 Thanks James |
Btw it's the bottom one on the left side. The top one looks like it's getting bad too..but need to know for sure the part or what that's called I think it's a sensor? Intake sensor?

Nox, those are the IMT valves (Intake Manifold Tuning). The O-ring that is inside should be able to be picked up at your local Jag Dealership for fairly cheap. Most dealerships want like $8 apiece for them. Might as well replace both of them as you most likely are not too far from the other failing. The trick with the lower one is to simply pull the valve out about 1" and then stretch the o-ring over the front of the valve. If you don't do it that way, the only way to get the IMT valve out is to lift the whole intake off of the car.
If you need more info, let us know. |
Sweet thanks. I got two top and bottom. What sealant should I use?

Oil in both 2 and 6. What is the recommendation for cleaning?
What if the oil comes back into the wells? What would be the next step? |
Ok so still have same issue on start up. It starts but then it runs low rpm's. It drops down to about 500 but then fluctuates and then just has a rough idle. So far I have changed the IMT O-rings cleaned out the oil wells in the spark plugs removed all of oil cleaned off the spark plugs. But I still have the same problem this morning.
Do I have to change the intake manifold gasket or do I have to change the spark plugs and coils? I'm not sure what else it could be could it be like a throttle issue my throttlebody is getting stuck or my sensor is not working correctly? And again the symptoms are only when I start my car when it's really cold outside other than that I never really run into a problem. They also have that BK 44 and my fuel system |
Help.... :(

I'm not sure if this will help but I also noticed when the RPM's drop between 500-600 the lights start to flicker..what could cause that? The dashboard lights and my radio lights flicker/get dim..could it possible be a battery issue? Like cranking amps vs cold cranking amps? I have a brand new battery in there..any feed back is appreciated.

Noting that the codes showed misfires on cylinders 2 and 6, then you found oil on those two plugs that you cleaned up, but without sorting the problem, I would suggest they may well be sufficiently damaged to require re-newing. Alternatively, swap one of them with No4 and see if the misfire code changes to P0304. Then get new plugs!
You've not said what the mileage is. Plugs should have been changed at 70k miles. Flickering lights are possibly just the alternator being too slow? |

If I change plugs I might as well do them all I'm assuming.. I'm wondering if the coils went bad due to oil in cylinders 2&6? |
What are the symptoms of an alternator going out?
