Default X-Type stuck in park and won't start

Hello everybody, I have a auto 2.5 xtype that just wont start. I've already replaced the starter and the battery. Replaced starter because it would make the clunk noise whenever I would try to start it . Now I get nothing at all when I start the car just a tick at fuse box. Also wont go out of park. Someone pls help car just ran fine up until now.

How are the battery cable ends? The ground cable has been known to cause problems at the end away from the battery.

Full story got my baby about 7 months ago. She started to throw a battery symbol about 2 months ago. Looked under hood and the cable from terminal to fuse box was loose. Tighten the terminal bolt and all was well. Now 2days ago it did the same thing except this time it was the one from the starter? I felt a hard clunk every time I started it. Then 5 hours later it died without being able to go in neutral. Thats when I did everything I said in my opening statement. As far as tapping the starter. It turned a few times while I taped it.then the starter started to make a fast spinning noise. After that I turned the key and no more stater noise, nothing at all!! Nothing but a tick at the fuse box. Replaced starter no more fast spinning noise. Car trys to crank while tapping but try get the car started with key nothing at all but click at fuse box. Also still stuck in park

Could it be the switch on the gear shifter, try moving the shifter slightly when trying to start car.

Also you could remove starter from car and see if it spins when some one turns the key.

Check all electrical connections again

Sorry guys it took me so long to reply car has been in the shop and my tech said there is no power from the ecu to the starter but the car was running fine until I replaced the starter. And thanks to everyone who's trying to help I really appreciate it. What can cause that?

Could be the "cascading effect": one problem begets the next.

Did you use a jump from another vehicle, or a charger with a "Start Boost" in trying to start the car when the starter was acting flaky?

That could have muncho'd the computer.

Next on the list of cascading events will likely be the little flap covers on the vanity mirrors will quit staying open. THAT, of course, is DIRECTLY ATTRIBUTABLE to tapping on the starter!!!

Hey guys im bak with an update. After about 2 weeks of my tech going over every thing in my car, a burnt out wire blew out my diode. Replaced wire and diode and shes bak on the road.this was caused by bad posittive battery terminals. So my advice to all is to check your terminals and make sure everything is good.

Usually that wire with a diode that sometimes burns out is the one that connects to the back of the alternator. That wire usually feeds the car with power. The wire will have what looks like a black molded box maybe 6-8” or so away from the alternator connector. You can pierce that wire before and after the black box and make sure you have power on both sides of it. If you do then good. If not then you can temporarily make a jumper to bypass it to see if that fixes your problem and if it does then remove jumper and replace the wire and diode

Great! Thanks for the response.Where do you recommend I get the diode and is there a number for it or part number? I would be interested in replacing it this weekend.
