2020 Jaguar XE Facelift

Looks nice... sharper LED headlights and taillights from the I-Pace. Love the interior changes...looks like I see some quilted seats along with the secondary screen for the aircon and the redone center console around the gear shifter.

Wonder what else Jag has in store.

Jaguar certainly need to do something, because the XE is a sales flop, selling far too few to make significant profits. A large part of that has to be down to the very, very, unimaginative interior. Cars up to last year didn't even have covers over the cup holders !! I suppose their excuse was it was rushed out in a great hurry. They'd have been better standing back a bit and saying to themselves "is this really how we want a small Jaguar to look"

Prange 01-18-2019 07:22 AM

I've never even seen a TV ad for the XE. The only ads I ever see are for the SUV's.

That and the Jaguar factory finance offers are lousy.

Fraser Mitchell 01-19-2019 03:28 PM

Just to add a confession that after my adverse comments on the XE interiors, I have actually gone out and bought one !! Mine is a 2017 XE Portfolio AWD with Comfort suspension. It is really nice so I have forgiven the interior designer a bit, (but not too much !!).

Well OK Fraser,
Say three Hail Mary's and all will be forgiven.:icon_biggrin:

No more hockey puck?

BruceTheQuail 01-21-2019 02:38 PM

No, it's gone. Really I thought it worked in the XK and first gen XF, but not in the XE and F Pace. In the XE it is a bit smaller and notchier, it isnt as easy to use when not looking. The F Type style shifter though is good once you get used to park being a button. Nice shape, too, like a joystick. I prefer it now.

mosesbotbol 01-22-2019 01:48 PM

Stronger alloy wheels would be nice touch. All four of mine are bent...

BruceTheQuail 01-24-2019 02:17 PM

Cant imagine why they are so weak, the OEM Jag wheels weigh a tonne (and I had the back injury to prove it). They must be made out of lead.

When we leased our Volvo, the sales manager use to be the finance manager at Jaguar. I wanted tire/rim insurance on the Volvo and he said "You're likely not going to need it on the Volvo, the Jaguar wheels are crap and tire/rim should be a mandate for any buyers." Still bought the policy as I am so snake bitten from the costs on the Jaguar wheels & tires.

Prange 01-25-2019 04:18 PM

I just used the tire/wheel insurance two weeks ago. Blew up a tire,no wheel damage.

mosesbotbol 01-26-2019 08:15 AM

FWIW, I never had any wheel damage on my XK with 19" wheels. I know some are reading all this and may be questioning whether to buy a Jag. Don't let this sway you from going to another marque. My buddy's AMG has the same issues and luck for him he bought the tire/rim insurance.

I had the same problem with my BMW 335xi.

Hi
Jaguar tends to qute very conservative 0-60 times and real work figures available for the new XE 300 or 250

newbie post :-)

Prange 05-15-2019 06:59 AM

They lost me as a customer by eliminating the blown V6.

Shagman25 05-15-2019 06:35 PM

I completely agree with Prange. The reason I chose the Jag over the other Japanese and German cars was the Supercharged V6. The 'S' model is superb even with all the cons such as the Infotainment system, small back seat, no Apple Car Play (by default). The engine and the suspension are just magnificent, without that I would not get another one, but at this point I would probably go for a pre-owned F-Type R. Love the V6 but I need a bit more roar out of this kitty.

BruceTheQuail 05-15-2019 07:26 PM

I went from the 5.0 XKR to the v6 S f type, and I tend to think the v6 is a nicer car to drive. The acid test is taking out the f type r on track days and seeing whether you feel neutered getting back into the 6, but the 6 still feels better, noticeably more nimble.

I do miss the v8 noise and the quad pipes. The v6 is very, very loud but it isn't the same.

For the XE, I haven't driven the 380hp version, only the lower output S and of course the 4 potter my wife has. I really like the 6 in the XE, the 25T wasn't really direct enough. Hopefully the p300 will be a lot better, it should be as it is a second faster to 100kph.

All the horsepower in the world doesn't do much if you're limited to 121 mph. The least expensive Alfa Romeo Giulia has 280hp with a 149 mph top speed. Getting rid of these ridiculous speed limiters is what customers should be demanding.

Shagman25 05-15-2019 09:51 PM

Again I completely agree the speed limiter is a bit of a bummer but this is probably based on the package included with the vehicle. For example the tires from the factory are only rated to to 121mph, so it makes sense from that standpoint. I've taken my car to the limit and the car wants more given its the same motor as the F-type. I went with the Velocity tune and now I dont have that limitation. It's a personal choice and you have to consider the drawbacks, however now I now feel that the car is properly at its best. You do have to consider the tires from the factory only rated 130mph. I love the tune for how I drive the vehicle and now the true power is unleashed. With a proper tune you will have to consider the proper tires for the unlocked speed. The tune makes all the difference if you are into that type of thing but I think Jag should have made this an option right out of the gate. Hello, Project 8 put a V8 into the same compartment as the V6 and everyone knows about the same block being modified.

So if it's performance you want, go with a tune, change the tires, and enjoy what this engine is meant to do. It's essentially a F-type with 4 doors, I know as I have friends with both the V6 and V8 models.

I was going to ask about removing the limiter. What kind of RPM were you running at 120 mph? With the tune is there a preset limit or will it go until it bounces against redline?

I was confused, as i thought the limiter was 155mph, but makes sense with the tires. i have the 20" propellers with P Zero's on the XE S (380HP). tried to take to to the limit, but it seems the car stopped creating power at 197km/hr - i was only at 4000 RPM or so at that point. no tune, just stock

You hit the factory 121mph limiter so the car essentially cut off power making ability to prevent going faster. By comparison an XJ40 can run 140mph and a naturally aspirated X100 does 154. All XE's are limited to 121 save for the Project 8.

Actually the XE S comes equipped with Y Rated (186 mph max) tires from the factory, yet the car is still electronically limited to 121 mph which makes no sense at all.

BruceTheQuail 05-17-2019 05:30 PM

It doesn't really matter how safe a production car is, if you crash it at 120mph plus someone is going to get hurt. Maybe Jag is trying to keep the safety stats high. The XE was the safest production car when it first came out, from memory, although Jag didn't really push that as a factor to buy.

My HSE is ordered with a build date of 14th June :)

BruceTheQuail 05-18-2019 04:12 PM

Awesome! The build on ours has started. I had spaced the monogram aluminium as finishers and thought to change but it was too late.

Can't wait to see pics once you'll take delivery, if you will want to post them. Do you organize a built to specs car at any Jaguar dealer? Just want to say thanks for supporting the marque. It's buyers like you that keep any make afloat.

BruceTheQuail 05-18-2019 05:10 PM

Thanks! Actually having had the xe since 2015, when the pics came out of the new one it was pretty much as though Jag had read my wish list, so it was an easy decision. Especially when I am getting a lot more car for the money.

I just got my hands on the inclusions and pricing guide and worked from there. Then I checked it all on the configurator online. The packs are very cheap on the hse, so our new p300 is specced with sunroof, black pack, dynamic pack, tech pack, monogram finishers, surround sound, ionizer, all in firenze red and on venoms (I wanted propellers which would have been a cheap addition but my missus prefers the venoms).

Should be a great car. Our p300s are rwd not awd so maybe it will be a little quicker.

Three blown tires and 2 bent rims, all covered under insurance.
