Thanks Alpha!

I’m pulling the trigger on this mod! Will report back after it’s done (together with the VAP pulley installation).

Great! Let us know how it goes. Interested to hear how it sounds combined with the tune and pulley.

Default alphakinase - Thank You

I just wanted to say a big thank you for all the info and pictures relating to this mod.

I bought and XE S and had the central resonators as you described removed and the difference is amazing. I have a friend who has an F Type V6 and it sounds almost identical now, so much rawer than before.

The video's really don't do justice to the improved sound, I've tried to take some video's myself and they just don't capture the extra sound you get in real life, it is some difference, the pops and bags are much better as well. It's not quite Ftype for the pops and bags but that is software related not hardware.

I was a little sceptical after watching the videos as it is in places hard to tell if there is a difference but in real life there absolutely is. I was also concerned there may be drone at higher speeds, there is no difference at all, which there shouldn't be anyway as the exhaust still has a central resonator to block this sound out.

I would thourally recommend this upgrade to anyone with an XE S & XF S, it transforms the car.

I'm based in the UK and had the work done at Veizu technologies who are a Jag tuning specialist, great company to work with. Veizu all confirmed when I picked the car up that it was as close to an F type for sound as you could get.

I can't thank you enough for putting this info out as you have, its transformed the sound of the car.

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul

Thanks for the note! So glad you are enjoying it.

There a trick to getting insane pops and crackles: after you rev it up to around 4K - 5K, just give it a *light* Tap on the throttle and it’ll crackle a few times. You can keep tapping it as you coast down and it’ll keep popping. Sounds just like the FType! Once you get the hang of it, you’ll be crackling all day.

Are you still satisfied with the resonator delete? Did you do a muffler delete as well? Looking at doing the resonator delete if there is no drone.

There is no drone.

Still 100% satisfied.

I don't think a muffler delete would add anything.

Thanks! So the shop cut off the 2 central resonators, and welding 2 straight pipes to the mufflers?

Yep. You can see from the picture I posted on the first page where the cuts were made.

Well, I finally bit the bullet. I had a shop do cut them out and weld in straight pipe.

Here is a summary of the effects:
  • Significant increase in volume (it will turn heads)
  • Significant increase in rasp/growl. When you shift gears at the higher rev range under load, you get this nice crackly raspy sound. Just amazing.
  • A decent increase in crackles/pops. I think these were there always, and deleting the resonators has the effect of making them louder/more noticeable. Especially if you let off in the higher rev range, the pops are LOUD.
  • Literally ZERO drone. Absolutely none. In fact, when cruising on the highway, I doubt there is a perceptible difference in the stock exhaust and the exhaust without resonators.

Overall, I am extremely pleased. And it only cost me $120.

I think this is how the car was meant to sound from the factory, to be honest. I would guess the resonators were there simply to differentiate the XE and the F-type tonally (JLR don't want the XE stealing the F-types thunder!).

If there are any forum members with a V6 F-type in the Austin area, send me a PM. I'd love to do a side-by-side comparison on video for the forum. I'd wager they sound almost identical with this mod.

Video to follow shortly!

Cheers

Hey guys,

if you’re looking for some extra supercharger induction noise (through simple and reversible mods) as well, have a look at my F Pace mods, the 35t XE has the exact same intake setup:

I got my resonators deleted a couple of weeks ago, and now my XE sounds like a Subaru rally car wannabe - very slappy and unappealing at revs above 2k. I seriously regret doing this mod.
When I left the shop, I walked away with 3 parts - two cylinders and a thing that looks like a mini muffler.
I'm wondering if the shop did it wrong, and the mini muffler was removed in error.

Seaxes, I'm pretty sure you got a catalytic converter delete along with your resonator delete on that one. Next time be sure to show your technician the photos alphakanise made of his mod.

But now that you have the converter off, you can look into getting a high-flow cat replacement to put back into place, you'd have less restriction than stock and could say "I meant to do that." ;-)

Actually the pre-muffler seems to have been cut out in addition to the resonators (the cylinders). Cutting the cats would have thrown a code (plus they are way further upstream). Shouldn't be too hard to put the pre muffler back in, you can see in the pics by the OP that he left this pre muffler in place.

Methinks you are correct sir. Converters come right after the manifold where the exhausts are hottest. My mistake. ;-)

Just curious, but wonder what it would sound like if you were to also delete the front resonator, therefor straight pipes straight to the mufflers from the cats.

Re the guy who said it now sounds like a Subaru: they did it wrong and cut out the 2x2 muffler as well. That is supposed to remain in place.

+1 on this post. Had the resonators deleted at the same Austin shop. Thanks @alphakinase for the excellent documentation. John (from the shop) was surprised to see himself in the picture I showed where to make the cuts. I can confirm no drone and it's noticeably louder/fun in my 2017 XE 3.5t.

Also pulled hood liner, engine cover, top air filters per tips from @Whitefpace. Next up, springs, ECU, and pulley/cable. 480 here I come. Maybe Stuart@VelocityAP can cut me a deal if I order all 3 at once.

I’m in San Antonio and would love to hear it. I finally got a recommendation for a shop here that will do it using stainless bar for welding. I already bought the stainless pipe.
