Quickie vid of the XE

Well how about that, no LSD and it manages to leave a pair of lines...

MarcusXFR 01-29-2015 08:09 AM

That's what an open diff will do for you. LOL

As long as you can apply enough power to break both wheels loose at the same time, yes, an open differential will leave 2 black lines. It is when you have limited traction on one tire in relation to the other that the open differential will transfer all power to the one wheel.

Took me a while to understand what was going on. They slowed down the speed of the video during the burnout. I wished I could've gotten a better idea of how the exhaust sounds.

I just don't beleive it. Maybe I am getting old and cynical.

Jag tells the testers "the car has an open diff"

The testers take it for a drive, and comment about "The XE uses an open rear diff, but we couldn't get it to light a one-tire fire, and unlike the F-Type which would rather be sideways, the XE puts it's power down like a champ" (Road And Track Review)

You can bet these guys turned off the DSC/Traction/whatever and beat the hell out of the car, but yet it would not spin up a single wheel...

Come on, something's not right here...

Bellanca_XF 01-29-2015 06:42 PM

Yeah I'm still a bit puzzled by that, does it lock in the other wheel causing it to spin too?

Adam B 01-29-2015 09:32 PM

Watch the brake lights. You can see them come on immediately, the wheels start to spin, then the lights go out after the car has gone about 15 feet. That explains how the burnout, though I am not versed well enough in diff's to answer your other question.

Cambo 01-29-2015 09:39 PM

I've done lots of burnouts in RWD cars with both open and lsd diffs, by riding the brake just like that.

Open diff = right hand side wheel spinning only
LSD diff = both wheels spinning

I can not believe that XE in the video has an open diff. Just can't...
