Potentially yes. In reality - it depends. First of all, a piggyback can be installed and removed in 5-10 minutes. Which is handy before brining the car in for any service.

A full ECU remap is a more interesting idea but it leaves traces of tampering with it all over car. Cars are full of black boxes and they record pretty much everything you do with them. Hence, if something in the drivetrain goes south - the manufacturer has the right not to honor your warranty claim. On the other hand, they'd need to prove that your tune caused the damage. So it's a tricky situation and manufacturers are getting awfully smart about it. These days, Audi, MB, BMW, etc. require dealers to connect the cars to their intranets. After that, it's a matter of minutes for them to run a full remote diagnostics and see all the recorded parameters. At least MB USA goes even beyond that and requires that the dealers send them all faulty parts for inspection.
Audi is even worse. BMW offers the MPPK for some selected models. Which is neat but overpriced.

Also, even if a dealer claims that something doesn't void the warranty, tell them to sod off. Since they are not the ones who make the final say when it comes to major warranty claims.

So, in a nutshell, there is no short or right answer. If you want more power - you gotta roll the dice or just buy a more powerful car to begin with. If you do roll the dice, be smart about it and go with companies/specialists who actually know what they are doing and not just claim. Do your due diligence and ask questions. Any tuner who says "let's go nuts" is a NO NO since nobody wants to have issues.

And finally, anyone who tells you that tunes are undetectable or if you get caught, and it's proven that the tune is the cause of a major failure, they'll pick up the repair bill - is lying in an attempt to make a sell. I'm yet to hear/see any evidence that show that a tuner picked up a bill for $40k for an engine replacement on an AMG/SVR/M/etc.

P.S. I know of people who bragged to their service advisors of the tune and mods they did to the car. Needless to say their VIN #s were flagged in the manufacturers system immediately. #welcome2therealworld

In the USA it is incumbent on the dealer to PROVE your tune caused any 'Disputed Repair".

What you want is a responsibly done remap...contact velocityap.com and see if they are developing a remap tune yet for the 2.5 t, they tune Jaguar, Aston Martin, Porsche, Bugatti, McLaren, etc.

They say on the website " £2,000,000 of underwritten insurance coverage on every ECU Tune we provide", and many many users are running the tune on the six cylinder xe with great success.

I've been running mine for 12K miles, have honestly and directly and in writing told the dealership and the USA HQ Executive Liason for Jaguar I'm running a tune, and they have honored all my warranty and service work afterwards knowing this. You do have to remove the tune before service, not to hide it (it wont) but to ensure the original file is there in case they want to load a factory update to the original factory file.

Here is another dudes perspective on warranty work after his tune...he went through it himself. It is not something you take on lightly... unless you are prepared to fight for your consumer rights. His warranty was also honored. But he also got scared and removed his tune after...


But I did the tune and am as happy as heck I did. These Jaguars ARE performance cars and engines, after all, aren't they?

Just use common sense...if your drivetrain dies after your tune your turbo four cyl up to like, 375HP, and if its the exact same drivetrain they use on the 380HP version R with the six cyl, it's likely they cannot say it was your tunes HP that killed your drivetrain.

Conversely, if you get some idiot to put the wrong fuel maps and turbo limits in the ecu and you kill your turbo, repairs are on you....so choose you tuner wisely, my friend.

Hey all, any updates on 2.5T upgrades? I'm having a hard time finding reliable info.
