Anyone know how to do this with the XF Sportbrake 2018?
Driving my wife mad, as she's afraid of being T-boned as in the original post... Thanks for all the advice. Will investigate... |

No, but I bet it's the same module in both the Sportbrake and sedan. See post #36 in this thread and the pic labeled 'voltage module'...... that's the one you can pull either large plug from. I pulled the grey one (appears to be the module ground) because it was easier to get to. I don't know where that module sits in the Sportbrake but on the sedan it's on the passenger side of the trunk behind an access panel.

So, the 2018 Sportbrake rear panel looks like this....

On closer inspection both top black and grey below have two thick wires only.

Yup, that silver can/module with the large black and grey connectors looks the same as in the sedan. Some pulled the black connector, some pulled the grey connector. Pulling either one disables SS. I pulled the grey with the large gauge black wire going into it.because I couldn't access the black connector well enough to pull it. I came across my fix accidentally. Others said pull the black connector and I tried but couldn't get a good enough grip on it so I pulled the grey connector to get a better grip, didn't put it back and had to go somewhere, noticed my SS disabled while driving without pushing the button! When you think about it either one should disable it as I'm sure the large black wire in the grey connector is ground for the module.

Pulled black one. Car wouldn't start at all...

Not yet. I'll try that tomorrow. Going cautiously for now. Don't like messing with 'modern' cars really. Pre-1980 cars I'll gladly rip apart and re-build/renovate, sympathetically of course... :)

Pulled the grey one. Two days ago. All working well so far. Come to a stop and auto stop cancellation symbol appears each time I come to a stop.
Cool 😎 |

Interesting... The cancellation symbol only stays on while stopped, then disappears once moving again.

So last fall I disconnected my auto start. Wife had hated it. Everything fine. Yesterday I'm in line at a drive thru. 19 Fpace is running, foot on brake, car shuts off! WTF. Let off brake car starts, didn't do it again. How/why can it do it with wires disconnected? Hadn't done it for months or since???

It's been several months but I'm pretty sure it was the big black wire. It had (and so far except for that one time) been fine. Not a big deal but really has me confused. Like a lamp turning on that's not plugged in.
|
After looking at pictures it was a black plug that has 4 wires to it. Not sure I remember the "other one"

Pulled the grey on a while back (see above - 11/12) and ours is still working well regarding cancellation of stop/start.
