I'll second that.
Driving my wife mad, as she's afraid of being T-boned as in the original post...
Thanks for all the advice. Will investigate...

No, but I bet it's the same module in both the Sportbrake and sedan. See post #36 in this thread and the pic labeled 'voltage module'...... that's the one you can pull either large plug from. I pulled the grey one (appears to be the module ground) because it was easier to get to. I don't know where that module sits in the Sportbrake but on the sedan it's on the passenger side of the trunk behind an access panel.

Yeap, will have a look this weekend and let you/all know.

If I remember correctly when you first pull the plug and start it up you get a Start/Stop error but it goes away and never returns. You'll know when you got it right because after that every time you start the car the Start/Stop disabled icon shows up like you pushed the button to stop it. And you can just see part of the module/can in the picture on this thread but I think it's the only module with unfinished sheet metal surround.

So, the 2018 Sportbrake rear panel looks like this....

I’m thinking we are taking about this black one...

On closer inspection both top black and grey below have two thick wires only.

mleskovar 11-08-2020 10:43 AM

Yup, that silver can/module with the large black and grey connectors looks the same as in the sedan. Some pulled the black connector, some pulled the grey connector. Pulling either one disables SS. I pulled the grey with the large gauge black wire going into it.because I couldn't access the black connector well enough to pull it. I came across my fix accidentally. Others said pull the black connector and I tried but couldn't get a good enough grip on it so I pulled the grey connector to get a better grip, didn't put it back and had to go somewhere, noticed my SS disabled while driving without pushing the button! When you think about it either one should disable it as I'm sure the large black wire in the grey connector is ground for the module.

Pulled black one. Car wouldn't start at all...

Did you try pulling the grey one?

Marlow42 11-08-2020 03:22 PM

Not yet. I'll try that tomorrow. Going cautiously for now. Don't like messing with 'modern' cars really. Pre-1980 cars I'll gladly rip apart and re-build/renovate, sympathetically of course... :)

Pulled the grey one. Two days ago. All working well so far. Come to a stop and auto stop cancellation symbol appears each time I come to a stop.
Cool 😎

That's great! Something has changed though. With my black plug pulled the cancellation symbol appears as soon as I start the car and stays on and I understand those that pulled the grey plug get the same response. But those are pre '18.

Marlow42 11-12-2020 12:08 PM

Interesting... The cancellation symbol only stays on while stopped, then disappears once moving again.

So last fall I disconnected my auto start. Wife had hated it. Everything fine. Yesterday I'm in line at a drive thru. 19 Fpace is running, foot on brake, car shuts off! WTF. Let off brake car starts, didn't do it again. How/why can it do it with wires disconnected? Hadn't done it for months or since???

Which plug did you pull? The one with the big black wire or the other one? Just curious, don't know what difference it would make.

wa jag 1 12-23-2020 03:04 PM

It's been several months but I'm pretty sure it was the big black wire. It had (and so far except for that one time) been fine. Not a big deal but really has me confused. Like a lamp turning on that's not plugged in.

wa jag 1 12-23-2020 03:11 PM

After looking at pictures it was a black plug that has 4 wires to it. Not sure I remember the "other one"

Two large plugs going to the 'can'. One black, one grey. I pulled the grey one with one large gauge black wire going to it and the SS off symbol lights up when I start the car and stays lit until I stop the motor. Works that way with SS never activating and no problems for 4 years. Your problem sounds like an ECU hiccup (guess).

Marlow42 12-23-2020 04:56 PM

Pulled the grey on a while back (see above - 11/12) and ours is still working well regarding cancellation of stop/start.
