My Xf 2014 -reg vn64lfk caught fire while driving it after 8month of purchase
I need urgent help i purchased my xf (vn64lfk) marsh 2018 from well known dealer V12 sports in Hinckley with 6month Waranty and AA approved checked 23 November 2018 was driving it then message appeared in ddashboard in RED “Peefirmance Restricted” then passers told me come come out of car that there is flames under car at rear of car on right side . in less than 10 min all back the booth till near fuel tank all melted . i was going to die in there insurance let me down Because of some driving licence points they where not aware that still fighting for but I believe it’s a very dangerous issue and manufacturing or jaguar deffect can you please help on what to do finance company harassing me to continue paying monthly payment for 3years for a car off road insurance asking for insurance to continue payment for rest of year please help |

I don't know about all the laws there, but here in the US there shouldn't be any questions. Insurance would cover such an even unless there was a suspicion you intentionally caused it. The insurance company would total the car, which means they would pay you the value and it wouldn't be yours anymore, so you wouldn't be paying insurance on it anymore. As for the fire, that would get reported and investigated as to the cause, and if the cause was a manufacturing/design defect, it would get reported to the government and the manufacturer. I can't believe it would be all that different there, but hopefully someone familiar with the process can help you. |

Your 2014 XF will be the X250 and not the current X260 model. Our American members have a very different approach to controversy. Their first reaction is litigation whereas here in the UK, that is generally the last resort. You are in a very unfortunate situation and, whilst I sympathise, the reality is: 1. the six month warranty on the vehicle expired more than 2 months before the incident. The dealer and/or AA no longer have liability unless you can prove the vehicle was unsafe at the time of purchase. 2. an engine goes into Restricted Performance mode when a relevant sensor or sensors report out-of-range values to the Engine Control Module. This is to prevent mechanical damage and it may or may not be related to the incident. The way to find out is to engage a consulting engineer to examine the vehicle and submit a report. The fire is unlikely to be the result of a manufacturing defect and if you want to pursue this line against Jaguar, you will need a lot of patience and a lot of money. 3. failure to disclose "material facts" such as points on your driving licence or previous claims can lead to the insurer rejecting a claim. This is made very clear in all motor policy documents. 4. finance - depends on if the vehicle was financed through a loan or under a hire purchase agreement. If it is a loan, they will pursue you for payment of the outstanding balance. If you don't have Motor Legal Insurance, you may be able to persuade one of the "no fee claims specialists" to take it on. The alternative is instruct a solicitor yourself and pay the costs. Graham |

Hard to say but I think he is saying he did not tell the insurance people about some tickets he got. If you you do that they can and will cancel the insurance.
Did you find out why it caught fire? It's very rare and we have not heard of it happening before? . . . |
