Oil level

Hi, I use the info in my manual on how to check the oil level but on the screen I get check your users manual.
I'm told to warm up the car then without starting it push the button until I get to the oil level, that's the problem, it says not avaiable
and to see the manual.
Could this be a sign of a bad sensor?
2015 XF Sportbrake
Many thanks,

Howdy!
Once engine is warm, switch it off and go have a cup o' tea..

After 10 minutes the warm oil will return to the sump and then you can perform the no-start oil check.

if none of that works, after your cup of tea, lift the hood and try again.

You can also check oil level when cold/before starting engine by doing the same procedure (start button without foot on brake pedal) without waiting the 10 minutes.

Thanks all, I will try but not much hope, would like to be surprised :-)

It worked

I tried it when the engine was cold and did get the oil level to show.
It was about 50%, after a drive I checked again after waiting and it said I should
add 1/2 a liter, guess the second reading is more accurate.
Thanks again for your suggestions.
:-)

My guess is that it's more accurate when cold because all the oil has been drained to the sump. I used oil for the first time between changes on my last one at 18K miles. It was down 3/4 way on the meter when cold. When I warmed it up and checked it went up to 1/2 way and I attributed that to the oil expanding when warm. I also attributed the usage to almost all my trips between changes were short, around town, and on a cold motor with no long trips on the 0W-20. Lightest recommended oil for any car I've had.

Thanks, I'm going by the level when warm, now both cold or warm show a full level.
What happened to a simple dip stick ;_)
All the best,
Kim
