2010 XF TPMS Sensors
 

Hi All, new member here and new to Jaguar.

I own a 2010 XFR and have some TPMS woes. I had very slow leaks from each tyre and research suggested likely the valve stems leaking. Unfortunately there was no way to tell whether the car had TG1B or TG1C type valves ahead of taking them to the shop, so I bought both types (turns out it's TG1B). As you may know, these aren't really designed to have the whole valve stem swapped but we proceeded anyway and one of the sensors got broken.

Does anyone know if the TG1B and TG1C are interchangeable, as in will the new type work with my car?

Also, will a set of second hand ebay ones need programming in some way, or direct swap?

Help appreciated. Jag main dealer has the same part number for both TG1B and TG1C type valves and doesn't really seem any more clued up than me about what I'll end up with and whether it will work.

I think what you need is to match the frequency which is either 315mhz or 433mhz. Look at the one you pulled. It will be printed in the TPMS. TGIB and TGIC refer to the generation but the key is going to be in the frequency which is not interchangeable.

Regarding second hand - TPMS are not repairable or programmable. The batteries die over time and can only be replaced. Buying a used one off eBay won't help you as you're getting one that's aged. They average between 7-10 years in life expectancy.

Thanks for that. Freq will be 433 as it's a UK car, but I can't find anything that confirms whether the newer sensors will work on my system.

I know the batteries will die, but a set of used is about £40 whereas Jag want £77 for one! I'd rather just fit a set of the newer TG1C ones all round if it will work on the car.

I guess since you have them, cost would be minimal to install 1 and give her a go.

The stems themselves are not interchangeable with each other. Valve stems are specific to the sensor type. The base mounts to the TPMS (obviously) and you can se from Type C that the base slides and locks into a groove on the sensor. The base shape is too different for them to be interchangeable.

No I get that, I can happily change stems again (I do have the newer set sat there anyway!), as long as the newer sensors will work with the car.

Not sure I trust it, I know the model was changed from B to C at some point in the XF's life and it's impossible to tell from VIN which are on the car. I don't know if the rest of the TPMS system (receiver?) was swapped at the same time.

Looking for direct experience really, ideally someone who has replaced B with C and had it work
