5-30W oil on 5.0 SC ??
Hi, is anyone running 5-30W oil in the summer on the Jagauar landrover 5.0 SC Engines??

Please use the correct oil that meets the spec Jaguar calls for!

+1
It seems rather a fussy engine with some known issues. I would not risk anything but the recommended oil. |
The rings are designed for 5-20 and the oil passages for cam phazing, adjustable lift and other oil control features are small and you will cause issues with a thicker oil. And the spec'd oil will go 15,000 miles

For what it's worth, the manual that came with my XFR (2009, so one of the early ones) states that the recommended oil for its 5.0 SC engine is Castrol 5w30, but the oil cap in the engine bay of my car has 5w20 written on it. I wonder if this was a relic from the previous generation engines - does the 4.2L in the STR take 5w30 oil?
Also, phoning my local jag service centre lead to a recommendation of using 0w20... |
Yes, the STR does.
The 5.0 does not like 5w30, I gather. |
Well I am runing the 5-30W , from petronas, the one AMG benzez use , the engine is fine , no oil consumption, engine running smooth,
THE ONLY THING IS, 1. Before winter I will go the 5-20W or 0-20W, AND 2. I DONT REV THE CAR WHEN COLD< until it warms a litle. alex |
They're both 5 so the cold/revving is not really relevant.
30w -- see the comments by others. It's not suitable and the downside is dire. (But of course it's your engine.) |
