Aircon horror

Hello!

I have been having issues with aircon.

Symptoms as follows:

- Air blows warm / hot on starting. Becomes bearable on motorway when (a guess) airflow plays a part.

- no leaks have been confirmed, albeit the gas was changed anyway.

- when off the pressure is as expected. When started the pressure (on one side only, the ‘filling side’ went all the way up.) I don’t have the tools to view both sides.

I connected the JLS diagnostic software (I needed this to fix something else, but had a look) and noticed the following:

- compressor is drawing power and appears to be running. I also hear an audible click when I turn the aircon on.

- the big radiator fan does not run. This interested me since I believed it to be part of the system. I used JLS to have a look and it indicates: demanded speed 0 and actual speed 0. So it’s not asking for anything nor is it getting anything. I imagined if it was a broken fan it would at least demand some RPM.

Finally, I have a 6 year old crawling on me and need to go. I am sure I have forgotten something and I apologise for any confusion - thanks for your help.

I will try and clarify anything along the way. I am worried it’s the compressor, all seems expensive. Ultimately I’m going to have to trust a garage - just trying not to get burned.

Damn! Thank you, that seems to fit *horribly* well.

The only variable I see is the fan is demanding 0rpm but that isn’t mentioned.

The compressor itself is drawing power and it seems to fit the pressure indications.

Way beyond my capacity to fix - but I thank you very much for the info as a confidence boost to take the plunge with Jaguar or a trusty alternative.

As a final question - where do you good people find these?!

It’s tremendously handy.

I just keep my eyes open for guys like John!
There are many TSB's and other technical documents floating around and I try to grab what people post but it is hit or miss!

Now you need to post back with some results if you can. Helps us all out.
