Cam belt change mileage/years
Hi, my jag has done 84,000 miles and is from 2012, how does the criteria for getting your cam belt changed work. I have been told it is
112,000 miles or 7 years, so by the years it obviously fits that, but as it hasn’t done 112,000 miles how does that make sense?
can anyone explain it more ? Thanks….

The logic is that the belt will deteriorate with time, regardless of miles travelled and it will deteriorate with use, regardless of the time taken. If the car had been driven home from the dealership and parked in the shed for 7 years, the rubber would be considered to have aged sufficiently to need replacing.
