Default Car Juddering and now ABS kicking in

Hi all, Just signed up to the site whilst searching for some answers to my problems.

Jaguar XF 3.0, 59 PlateHad driven a short distance home from my dads last week and the first thing I noticed was that as I lifted the brake pedal (auto) and the car began to move, the car would shake/jump. When I got home and put the car into park the whole car began to shake, I then lifted the bonnet to inspect and the engine seemed to be rocking side to side.

I turned the engine off in order to check the oil level on the trip. It wouldn't show me and told me to check the handbook.
*when i tried again after a couple of hours it was about 3/4 on the trip*

When I tried to start the car again it failed to do so and flashed up park brake failure and gearbox failure. My dad suggested that it may well be a lack of transmission fluid and the car refuses to start as a fail safe. It also refused to let me apply the E-Brake

I tried the car again yesterday, ran a battery test which said the battery was fully charged and charging despite the warning on the centre console saying battery low whilst the ignition was on.
This time the car started, it did however have the apply footbreak and then park brake flashing on the dash. This time however doing so worked and the error left.
Also, the severe rocking that occured when in park seems to have gone.
I restarted the car and this error did not return so i decided to risk a lap of the block. The juddering whilst setting off also seemed to have left.
However whilst braking at 30mph to 20mph (ish) the abs would kick in, every time..

So my guess is its electrical and last week it was messing with the engine causing the shaking, the other day it was making the ABS act up.

I'd just like some opinions as its stressing me out and I cant get it to the mechanincs yet.

Thanks for any help.

Liam

What sort of battery test was it? ( if it's just status on a external charger it's not particularly accurate. )
This sounds like the sort of issues you run into when the battery is failing ( shorted cells that drop the voltage under load. ), or if one of the battery cables is loose.
Pretty much the only time you should get that reset EPB message is if the battery has been disconnected/fully discharged.

Its just a basic one from Aldi, I might risk a drive to halfords to have them test it.

Would this explain the shaking of the car? My mechanic suggested that it may have caused the engine to not fire properly and be unbalanced.
Or something to that effect.

FWIW, we used to have a 2009 XF, with the 4.2 engine. Once for sure, possibly twice, in the 11 years we owned the car, after driving sufficiently long enough to fully warm the car, we shut it off for 15-20 minutes. When we returned, and attempted to start the car, to drive away, it shook, like it was trying to run on 2-3 of it's 8 cylinders, several error codes flashed on the message screen, and "blipping" the gas pedal did nothing. However, simply shutting off the ignition, waiting 10-15 seconds, then restarting, cleared the issues. In our case, I do know the battery was good.

The next time I was in the dealership, I asked a couple of the techs, and they both said while it's a weird situation, it IS a "hiccup" that they see once in a while....

Thanks for that, I got no errors, shaking, or ABS on the short drive to Halfords.
The 2 days that i've had issues were particularly cold ones so it does make me wonder if the cold on a dieing battery caused some electrical gremlins.
