Default Considering 2010 XF... What should concern myself with?

Current member here and owner of a 98 XK8

Just came across a 2010 XF / 40k mile/ at a decent price.

Without searching through every possible issue with the car, what are some of the more common issues to be concerned about?

Owner claims only showing an evaporation code that needs to be addressed.

Which motor, 4.2 or 5.0? I think the 4.2s were somewhat more reliable.

I have the 2009 4.2 SV8. The original hide leather dashboards are prone to de-laminating, coolant hoses under the supercharger perishing are quite common and both are reasonably expensive to repair. I understand that there were many faults and flaws that were dealt with under warranty for the early XFs so probably the best approach would be to contact the establishment that the previous owner was using for their repairs and services and ask for some history about the vehicle. That's what I did and I got a lot of good information, the most important of which was that the dealer assured me that my vehicle had been regularly serviced and taken care of property by the previous owner. It will probably help if you give the impression that you also want to continue having the vehicle serviced by them, whether or not you are intending to.

Further conversation about the car
Your thoughts?

ALSO.. The car is the premium XF 5.0

From the owner :

It has a check engine light for a gas cap and it also has a wheel sensor for the air that must be defective.
I put four brand new ones and the ones not reading on the computer nothing major the car runs fine

The 5.0 engines of the early model years suffered from a poor water pump design. My 2010 5.0 had the pump replaced at 35K AND 70K. There is a newer version supposedly but I am not convinced it fixes the issues.

The rest of the cooling system is fragile as they use a lot of plastic pipes and they get brittle. Just be aware for coolant smell and water level in the reservoir.

The TPMS is touchy, they offer a reflash for the TPMS CPU that fixed my issues.

I drove my 2010 5.0 until it had 85K on it and that was really the only mechanical issues.

The only other issue that warrants a comment is the sunroof. It loosened up and started to make noise. There is a TSB for that as well and they install new foam blocks and re-fasten the fittings. Fixed that issue as well.

Overall, a very reliable car for me.
