How did you get to the filters?

Where exactly are they and what do you need to do to get to them?

Thanks,
Rok

The backrest filters can be seen in the pictures (white disc) The cushion filters are under the front of the seat, half turn removes them, again look for the white disc.

Excellent write up. I too have issues with the airflow in the driver’s seat. It never occurred to me that there were filters which may be clogged or a broken duct. Thanks.

What's interesting is on the 2018 Fords they replaced the seat filters with flat pieces of plastic with holes in them. No filter at all?
Maybe just something to keep the big stuff out of the fan?

I'll be honest, I did this procedure on my 2013 because I wanted it to flow more air (I live in Louisiana, it's HOT, I need as much venting as I can get!). My thought are this:

My filter was perfectly clean without a spec of dirt so I just removed it to try to get more flow. Not only does the filter exist but the fan is mounted behind a metal crossbar AND there is plastic ducting to get air to it's intake. IE, I can't figure out how anything significant could possibly get in there. My ducting wasn't cracked at all, maybe they updated the ducting in the facelift. I really like how the system uses a peltier effect panel, neat setup, and refreshing to see that it actually cools the air some before venting it to you.

Did you notice any difference in air flow after removing the filters?

Might be a placebo effect but I'd say yes. However, even if it is more, its only slightly more. Nothing significant, I'd love it to really blast air out.

Apologies for bumping such an old post but...is there supposed to be an ‘open’ top? Or am I missing a lid?
It looks as though the air is just being blown towards the headrest instead of into the seat

That's odd, there is for sure a cap to the blower that forces it into an air bladder in the seat. I wonder what happened to yours.

So the top of this should be blocked off? That’s how I removed it from the seat (ignoring the terrible silicone job!)

No that top is the excess. On the other side you aren't showing there is another outlet that blows into a chamber that goes to the seat back.

It's a peltier plate. Current one way produces heat on one side and cool on the other, when you want heat the cool side exhausts into the seat. And vice versa when you run it in cool mode.

Default Fixed the one behind the driver's side the passenger one was fine.

I put duct tape (the stuff you put on AC ducts) it worked easily. I didn't have to remove any of the zip ties. Just unscrewed them as in above directions, pulled it out and examined them. Put the duct tape on and then reinserted. Back is nice and cool. Need to check the ducts underneath the seat though, but they work okay.

This thread has been very useful but I haven't been able to solve my problem. I'm hoping someone may be able to offer some more advice.

Car is 2009 XF 3.0 D S Portfolio with climate seats. Drivers seat cools but has suddenly stopped heating.

Checked fuse 25 in footwell. That's OK. Followed the advice here and checked both seat back and base fans and flexibles. No cracks in either. Both filters aren't exactly new but fairly clean and look OK to me,

With the base filter removed when I set the seat to heat I can feel the fan start, first slowly and then faster but after about 10 or 15 seconds it stops.

I've looked for broken wires but can't find any.

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks
Mark

For heating I think there is a heat pad in the seat aswell as the peltier unit, so the heat pad may have failed??

Thanks.
I thought it was just the heated seats that had a pad.
I'm sure I've read somewhere it's peltier unit if heated and cooled, pad if just heated.
I don't know if there is a pad or not.

I just repaired the duct in the seat back on my drivers seat, this thread was super helpful, thank you. An extra bit of information that might be worth knowing is that the duct and blower systems are not left- or right-handed, it is identical in both seats; I took the back off the passenger seat to check it after repairing the drivers seat. The passenger side was in perfect condition. The parts could be robbed from there if someone had a badly damaged drivers seat duct and didn't care about the passenger seat.
