Cooled seats

Recently ran my cooled seats on a particularly warm day. Seat cushion / base seemed to get a bit cooler but nothing on the seat back that I could feel. Does anyone know which parts of the seats are cooled? And any way to test whether it's working - maybe there is a thermostat and it wasn't hot enough to run as even on the three blue bar setting I could hardly feel it. I don't use it much but I remember it as much more noticeable when I've used it in the past

Well on the XFR the temp controller for the seats on the infotainment center shows the lower back and bottom of the seat being cooled or warmed, you can choose between the or both sections.

And it works very slowly. I'd like to see about either changing or removing the filter from the seat. Anyone have any experience with that process?

I replaced the filters on my old Lincoln LS, and when i was looking for the Sirius module i could see that they are the same on the Jag. Super easy to do, essentially move the seat to it's highest position, reach under, and replace. 30 second job.

Any idea what the filter part numbers are? I can't seem to find them.

If you look at the pictures of the Ford seat filters they look identical to ours, rock auto has the ford filters for $22.

My parents are coming to town and will be driving their SHO so i plan on taking one of their filters out and seeing if it fits my car just to make sure.

Thanks!
I just took a look at them. Removing didn't seem to make much difference. I can see the little fan, which makes me wonder how hard it might be to replace it with something a little more powerful. I may look into that.

The seats aren't so much cooled as they are ventilated. Earlier this week, I had an XF loaner car that was lacking the cooled seats, and I really missed mine, given that it was a sunny day with temp's in the high 80's. I think the cooled seats basically keep you from sticking to the hot seats when the car has been sitting in the sun for a while.

Just seen this thread so thought i had best chip in........as a consultant seating engineer..... ;)

Long Ilander is correct......the seats are CHAV units.....Climate, Heat And Ventilated......no cooling as such just blows through ambient air from the cabin on the cool setting with adjustable fan speed.....the heat works by blowing air throuh an electrically heated matrix of hot metal plates........hope this clarifies.....

Awesome. Thanks!
One of these days I'm going to pull the fan out and see if there's a way to do an upgrade.

The above is incorrect. The climate seats contain Peltier cells. These get hot or cold depending on which way electric current passes through them. They work in the same way as electric cool boxes.

Yeah you're wright, here is the wiring diagram for explanation :)

I think the Lincoln LS seat filters have a much higher chance of fitting the XF since it was a twin to the early S type?

Filter 150596
PN#3W4Z-19E880-A Is the Ford number. They were about $15 but I am not sure of the current price.

I think any Ford filter has a very good chance when you look at the pictures they are identical, I will know for sure next Wednesday.

Please let us know if they fit.
It would be really great to get them at any Ford dealer!

How are the air ducts generally designed? I have read some companies mold them into the foam and do not reinforce them enough and over time the ducts collapse and air flow is diminished.

damienedwards 09-12-2015 03:10 AM

Hey boiler.....

On the seat backs (squab) its a rubber below to a PU mat and 10mm thick air distribution pad, this then blows through the trim cover which has sewn in a 15mm thick softer air distribution pad to the perforated leather...........the seat cushion os the same but no belows........just a duct molded into the B surface of the foam.........on the Jags never heard of any colapsing ducts as the angle of exit from the Amerigon blower unit is quite steep......the duct just compresses along its length rather than squashes in section......

hope this helps!!
