Default Driveshafts, Jurids, carriers, and trans mounts

Hello and welcome to this week's edition of I broke my stuff so now Im fixing it! Lol

2010 XFR replacing my rear E-diff, had a bearing go bad and kill a seal... now a roar..but I had a spare lower mileage diff in storage. Just a little backstory I recently did my lower control arm bushings with powerflex, and did an old/new trick (used to be done on Mercedes due to no part availability) I used urethane to fill the cradle bushings. I was trying to stiffen my suspension somewhat in order to stop wheel hop which broke an axle. (I race it quite a bit) It seems to have worked. So moving on during my diff swap due to the bearing and leak, I had already planned on replacing the rubber trans to driveshaft connector (jurid) so I had purchased one some time ago. Upon removal of my driveshaft I noticed my carrier bearing wasn't broken..but it was sagging/sacked out..as was my trans mount. Gravity and weight doing their job I suppose. In any event I decided to attempt to refresh those as they weren't currently damaged...but probably would be soon if left unattended. I used a vice to press the center of my trans mount in to a neutral/middle/center position, safety wired it in place and used the same urethane with a reported 60-65 hardness to fill in around the trans mount. I repeated the procedure with the carrier bearing but only filled the bottom area with urethane so as to still give easier upward flex. Do not know how this will affect road noise or driveline noise, but worst case scenario is I would have replaced them anyway. Best case is it works better than new.

Shows some signs of damage!

Jagaur reccommends not seperating the coupler from the driveshaft. They want to sell the driveshaft front to back complete. Think it is $1100 to $1400. Think I bought the coupler for about $80-$90.

Trans mount centered and started filing with urethane!

Let it dry 24 to 48hrs.

These things must be pretty tough!

Carrier bearing shaft has been centered, and urethane is used only on the bottom to reverse the effects that heat, gravity, and torque. This leave the top more flexible to allow for easier upward movement during pinion angle changes.

The rubber ring was not damaged , it was sagged out leaving the shaft not centered at rest. This supports the lower section and leaves the upper more flexible.

The urethane! Check it out on you-tube as they make several bushings with this. Its pretty good stuff!

Thanks for the information and pics.

What’s your opinion on the Powerflex bushings? Can you feel improved handling? Are there noticeable (annoying) increases in NVH?

Txs

I like the powerflex...that and the urethane added to the cradle mounts...seems to have cured my wheelhop issue that broke an axle. As far as handling...i got caught up with the F Type R forever club on Deals Gap in Tn (318 curves in 11 miles) and the old girl more than held her own! Even with Nitto555 R2s which are considered drag radials. I was very impressed with them. I haven't noticed much additional noise.
