FIXED: Dashboard popping and rattling

I've been searching high and low for a solution for a nagging dashboard rattle. It seems as though I'd been looking in the wrong place (inside the car). My solution.... On the outside of the windshield where the wipers are there is a plastic shroud that touches the glass as part of the weatherstripping. It runs the length of the windscreen. Apparently a lot of dirt and grime had built up underneath it and was causing it to not be able to move smoothly along the windshield when the car would flex. The simple solution was to take a ton of glass cleaner and clean where the seam meets the windshield. You can get a finger in between the shroud and the glass. I cleaned it profusely and for good measure used WD-40 on the seam as well. Now, I have absolutely no noise whatsover from the dashboard.

Glad to hear this was not a defect. What year is your car, and how many miles on her?

Thanks for posting that. Will be helpful if I encounter such a noise in the future.

This was the most helpful post! I had the creaking coming from the dashboard and was ready to remove the panels just to resolve this issue.i cleaned out that area as you suggested and the noise is gone! Thank you for this helpful information.

Interesting - I have a creaking from the dashboard but can't replicate with any amount of pushing and prodding on the inside. I'll look tonight and see - thanks for the tip!

I cleaned mine yesterday. I haven't had any noises since. I guess the shroud it's more rubber than plastic and it's at the base of the windshield.

Thanks!
