Flex Joint Part Number? Techs?
 

Hello all!

Put my car up on the lift to check for some things and discovered that the flex joint between the transmission and driveshaft is completely destroyed. Unfortunately, I am unable to find a part number for this flex joint itself and all things are pointing to my having to replace the entire driveshaft in order to get this part.

Would anyone here (or techs) have a part number for this flex joint (or guibo as they call it in the BMW world)? Or perhaps would anyone have any knowledge for a cross-compatible part?

Update:

I did a bit of research and it seems a German company, SGF, is the main manufacturer of all the guibos/flex discs for OEM applications. As there are only so many different sizes, I am hoping to make some measurements to see if I can locate a cross compatible part. At this point in time, it seems the part number "GAP01-003" may be the ticket!

I also spoke with the master tech at my local dealer and he confirmed that the flex disc is not sold as a separate part through Jaguar. He did also say that if I were to find an exact replacement, they would be able to install the part as long as I signed a liability waiver.

Since JLR only sell the flex disc installed with the driveshaft, they are wanting this liability waiver just in case something happens (though highly unlikely as per his thoughts).

Once I am able to find a resolution, I'll post a final update with part numbers, labor costs, etc.

Maybe this link will help. These parts are shown as replacements for the big horsepower Corvettes and Camaros, but in many cases, are the same dimensions as BMW parts....

The original flex disc is indeed made by SGF though it seems that Jaguar had coated the disc with a compound that rubs off and cracks over time. After speaking with the shop foreman at my local dealer, this design is to show the stress on the disc over time and if this compound cracks and flakes off, your flex disc may be warped which leads to driveline vibration.

Jaguar do not sell this disc as separate from the driveshaft as they are balanced together at the factory. However, we are able to replace the disc with the SGF GAP01-003 that can be found on Amazon at this link: https://goo.gl/QPC7q1

Attached to this post are some photos of the original flex disc as installed on the factory driveshaft compared with the new disc I have just received. The measurements line up exactly.

Hopefully this post helps someone down the line! It is a rather unusual part to fail on the N/A cars but more common on the supercharged cars, especially ones with tunes and pullies.

If you do want to get it balanced out, Inland driveline is good, they've done some race work for me.
