low coolant level - how to troubleshoot?

The saga continues.
The 12026 does not want to engage with the threaded filler neck. The cap engages smoothly, both the cap and neck mike out to 2.5mm threads - found my metric thread pitch gauge). The 12026 mikes out at 2.5mm pitch also. The 120023 is 3mm so I don't think that would help.
The 12026 wants to cross thread, and it won't go on without force beyond a fraction of a thread.
This shouldn't be this difficult! The good news is the leak is fixed so there's no panic for the coolant tester setup to work but it ain't much use if it doesn't.
Not sure where to go from here - I could chuck the adapter up in my lathe and run the threads a gnat's c**k deeper? Ugh..........
Crap, I can't I only have imperial threading capability, not metric.

The 12023 fits - after a fashion.
It takes a tremendous amount of force to seat it well enough that the rubber ring seals. I was very cautious with this adapter - it went on ok for one turn but beyond that progressively more and more force was required to seat it well enough to hold pressure, so much so that I needed to use the jaws of a crescent wrench behind the tabs to remove it in the end. I tried a turn, then checked the tank threads for damage - a turn and a half -check again and so on. Each time refitting the cap to ensure the threads were ok. The first couple attempts did raise a hair of plastic or two on the threads but never worse than that.
This is strange, the 12026 and 12023 are both 52mm in diameter. The 12026 matches the cap and the tank threads at 2.5mm. The 12023 has coarser threads at 3mm so should NOT be the right adapter, but it does seal eventually.
I'm confused by this, but I will keep the 12023 and return the one that SHOULD fit, the 12026.
An aside: I noticed the cap was marked at 200kpa, that's 30psi, for some reason I thought the jag was 15? It took quite a bit of pumping to get the tester up to 15psi, not sure it would have made it to 30.
Thanks for your help Gordo.................

So unlike my XKR of the same year that hand tightened w/o binding at all.
Unfortunately, this leaves the balance of the XF community without a definitive answer reagarding which Stant adapter fits. I guess the answer is the 12023 fits the best, but not perfect. When you use it, be sure to lube it w/ WD40 or similar. PS When you do need it again, I'm sure you'll be glad we went through this exercise.

Yes, it's hard to believe that no other XF owner on this site has had to use a pressure tester before? The other complication of course, was the two different part numbers for caps for the 2011 year. Was that size or as you suggested, maybe same size but different pressure? Who knows?
Agree, at least I have something on hand now that works even if it's not ideal.
I've already picked up an adapter for my truck too. These testers can become pricey if you need a bunch of adapters.
By the way is your XKR a 15 or 30lbs pressure system?

I did finally get a response from Jaguar, and they state that the adapter that I could not get to fit - the 12026 is the correct one.
The mystery continues.

Thank you for your patience while we looked into this for you. I have been advised The Stant 12026 should be the correct adapter for this vehicle.
I hope this is helpful and appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
If you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-4-JAGUAR, option 9, or by e-mail.

Leak
Ah the joys of July 4th The jag up on my portable lift.
I think I got lucky, there was fluid everywhere underneath so it looks like an external leak vs a head gasket. I'm pointing at some plastic connector which is loose - it appears to clamp by a pair of "legs" around a plastic boss/pipe with a raised ring which in theory keeps it tight. Mine is loose and leaking -hopefully this is the only leak - and hopefully I can locate this part off the online parts diagrams?

Back on the original topic, since some time has passed and perhaps more experience has been had and new members have come along, has anyone purchased a cooling system pressure tester "kit" that happened to contain the correct adapter by default? Tried either of the Harbor Fright offerings or off Amazon?
I've got a virtual "antique" MityVac tester (from way back before they made any components out of plastic) that fits old muscle cars but I'm not sure that the Stant adapter will work with it. I probably have to buy the whole Stant apparatus anyway to use their adapter and together its over $100 and then only fits one car. Many of the "kits" that come with a half dozen or more adapters are half to three quarters of that cost. Or, what are the chances, has anyone found the Stant adapter, which does kinda look like the neck of an old style radiator, will attach to my antique MityVac?

Assuming the XF 5.0 and XJ 5.0 use similar coolant reservoir caps, I had success with Harbor Freight one for way cheaper. I think it was the maroon/red adapter (#4).
I recall this being less than $30. YMMV.
EDIT: Looks like the price has gone up a lot since I bought it. Looks like it is now $89.
