Most likely cause P0174
Ugh, OK it was a "red herring". I wondered if the smoke were coming from somewhere else, and just rolling down over the front of the motor, even though I couldn't see anything. Blew some compressed air over the top of the motor while running the smoke machine, and now there's a plume of smoke coming out the back of the motor and nothing from around the water pump area which makes sense.
Not looking forwards to pulling all this s**t off - never thought I'd have to do it again after the cooling pipe job.

Thanks, but unfortunately not. I wish it had been something as simple as the pcv valves. Too easy for me, it has to be something intake manifold related.
I did see the smoke but I think your right? I can't tell either?
But if smoke is coming from the rear of the engine I don't see how that ties in with the intake system having an air leak?

It's only coming from the rear of the engine when I use low pressure compressed air blown over the top of the water pump area in order to determine if the smoke really was coming from that area or somehow "spilling over" from the under manifold area which it appears to be. Any smoke coming out of one of the manifold o-rings for example, will now be blown towards the back of the engine.
