P0420 Need suggestions for catalytic converter

I used to get the 420 every once in a while but past 2 months it comes for a week and goes. Took it to the shop I take it to, and they said it's catalytic converter for sure not 02 sensors. And I already knew what OEM dealer price is just for one catalytic converter, a whopping $1,300. Anyways found cheaper ones a couple places online. So my questions are, straight pipe it or stick with OEM? Or should I go for some performance converters? What are your suggestions or comments in general? Also, I'm trying not to put a hole in my wallet, please keep that in consideration.

How many miles on your car?

Cats can last for a long time unless something is wrong with the engine. You might have some problem with the ignition or fuel that is burning out the cat, so replacing the cat wouldn't be the end of your problems.

Currently has 120k miles, so I would believe age and miles caused it. Or am I wrong?

I personally changed my OEM cats with Kooks high flow cats. Car breaths better and no more of that rotten egg smell on wide open throttle. Oh did I mention my exhaust sounds better? :)

Awesome, have you noticed any issues related to the cats... CEL or anything else? Do you have a specific part number for them? Lastly this is for the 4.2L SC V8 right? Sorry for all the questions, but you could call me somewhat of a newb... lol
