Paddle shifter in D Mode for 2012 XF NA V8 - Can anyone confirm?
Paddle shifter on my 2012 XF NA V8 works only in S mode. Looking at previous posts on this topic, there are discussions about other model year XF's and outside US models having paddle shifters in D mode, some dealers able to make it work in D mode etc.
Has anyone in US with 2012 XF NA V8 able to make the paddles work in D mode by the dealer? Was at the dealer and he told me that it cant be done
Thanks

My 2011 will operate and shift into paddle mode while still in "D" position simply by pulling the paddles. It stays there with the gear display showing until you stop using the paddles. For example at an extended red light.
To the best of my knowledge all RHD XFs from 2009 onwards have an option in the Settings to change the operation of the paddles from "they work only in S mode" to "they work in both D and S modes".
I suspect some early LHD / North American XFs didn't have this option, but a 2012 model should have it.
If you have it it is somewhere in the Vehicle Settings so see if you can find it, sorry I no longer have an XF so I can't give you the exact procedure to find that setting but maybe someone else can.

About halfway through the 2011 model year the factory suddenly changed policy and ordered all further non-supercharged cars produced for the North American market to have shift paddle functionality only in S and not in D. In addition they went so far as to order all cars still in dealer inventory reflashed to remove this functionality in D. This was all driven by the fact that Jaguar was getting murdered in the JD Power surveys by all the ham fisted Americans who couldn't keep their fat fingers off the paddles and then thought their cars were defective. I believe this was the case for the 2012 model year as well. Even if they know how to restore this functionality dealers are strictly prohibited from doing so. Some aftermarket tuners may be able to do it.
on my 2013 in the vehicle settings menu on the headunit there is an option to let the paddles work only in S mode or in both D and S. Maybe yours is the same?

No, it's not the same, because it is not a 2013 or later like yours, or a supercharged model.
I have 2 2011 XF's and one the paddles worked in D and the other it didn't.
I ended up paying a reprogramming fee to have the other one turned off in D as well because it is very easy to hit the paddles, and annoying to fix it once you do that.
If you want to pay a reprogramming fee, I am sure they can turn it on for you in D.
Paddles added to a torque converter automatic transmission are just a gimmick anyway. All the car testing magazines say they get better performance leaving it in auto mode.

Actually, no they can't. Dealers are allowed to go one way (removing paddle functionality in D) but not the other. This applies to naturally aspirated models only, the supercharged ones were left alone.
Well use your creativity and go to an independent with the Jag comouters and pay them to do it. They don’t have stupid corporate rules to follow.
2012 Jaguar XF 5.0 in Canada is shifting in D mode...its really useful and feel sorry for people who do not have this feature. Thought it was standard feature they introduced in pre-face lift.
There has to be something you can do...try updating the software. When I am driving in D, I hit downshift when I want to hear the blips and then it stays in a manual mode for until it realizes I want to drive normally again. Or I can hold the upshift Right side paddle for a few seconds to bring it back.
When I put it in S then when I use the paddle atleast once it stays in the gear I select. Shifting my gears with the paddles are smoother (I think it locks the torque converter *better* or something).
