after 36,000 miles my brakes are squeaking very loudly. The dealer wants to replace brakes at a cost of 3300. Is this necessary? It is a 2006 xkr

 

If they are squeeking, then they might be at the end of their life. but 3300 is VERY expensive.

But yes - could be worn pads. Way over priced though - I bought ceramic pads and slotted rotors for my XF SC for about $600 and installed myself in about 45 mins per wheel. Depending on the parts you use I'd expect a decent Indy should be running a little over $1000 for all four
