Default Strange a/c issue

So, my ac works perfectly, blows cold and hot, vents rotate, etc but I am having a strange issue. I used the ac today (cold) and I cannot get air out of the two center vents the on the dash or out of the rear. The system is cold but my feet are frozen, has anyone had this issue? I thought maybe something was just a little stuck so I tried adjusting the fan and movind the air from feet to dash and back but that didn't help.

There are actuators that control which vents the air flows: face, windshield, or feet.

Sounds like you have a broken one. And they are usually not expensive to buy for the part, but often a nightmare job to replace. I have a Town Car that needs a couple more replaced, but I haven't done it yet because the entire dash has to come out to get to them. And these cars are based on a Lincoln, so expect the same, but hope for better.

Well, your opinion was just seconded by my service tech. Now time to decide if it's worth the cash or just sell it.

Sell the car!? Nooooo lol.

Do the center vents work when you have top vents on cool only? (feet off)

Did they give you a quote on the repair?

Yes it might be easier than you think?

The S Type which the XF is based on has 4 climate control doors. They are all very cheap at about $15-$30. They are pretty simple to change too.

Now I don't know the XF so you will need to look at the factory manual to see what it says.

I went by the dealer and we narrowed it down to the climate control doors and I was quoted $3600 for the repair. That plus I need brakes so...

$3600?! Ouch! Is that for labor and the climate doors only?

Wow.

Labor for the climate doors is $2610.00 (18 hours) I forgot the rest.

That price is just freaking unbelievable. Some dealers really need to get a grip. Even at $100 for the parts the labor equates to $194 per hour. I wish I could earn that much....

18 hrs for labor? I could dismantle the entire interior and reinstall it for less than 10 hrs. That sounds excessive just for climate door work. i would find me a independent true mechanic and give him the job along with a copy of the factory service manual. It is not that difficult. It is a challenge though with out the factory manual.

Well, replaced the XF with a left over 2014 Lexus ES350 this morning. Looking forward to years of mind numbingly boring, but comfortable and reliable, driving.

I checked out a GS but I thought I may as well save the cash since the ES has the same size and niceness in the interior. Even though the GS is rwd it has no ***** at all and comes with a ricer body kit so.....no. I will buy a Jaguar again when I can afford to comfortably buy it brand new in cash so I get the warranty.

Sorry to see you go, Was this the only issue for you to let the Jag go?

When you put the vents on upper body only, did all of them work correctly?

Nothing like a brand new vehicle, congrats on the new purchase.

Thanks! I also had my inspection/registration due in February (200), oil change due in Feb/March (100), brakes needed in February(400-700), and tires later in the spring(1000). When I added up all of this maintenance plus the cost of the repair it made me start thinking.

When I put it on upper body only the air still only came out towards my feet. When I put the air towards the windshield it would go to my feet and the windshield.

I hope you know I was just giving you a hard time. I had an ES300 a number of years ago and it was great transportation. Nice enough and never needed anything but routine maintenance. But oh so boring...Hope you make it back soon.

And you will be bored. We've had an '04 Lexus RX330, '09 ES350, and I just sold our '14 RX350. I just got bored to death with them. Their reliability is fantastic and you won't spend much time at the dealer. I ordered a '15 Mercedes C300 and should have it in a couple of weeks. I'm sure I'll get to know the waiting room quite well.

Did a diagnostic, apparently the when they replaced the passenger airbag, they bumbled something as in SDD it shows the error reported on the same exact day. Very disappointed in the quality of care/service the local jaguar dealership performs. This is why I have my own mechanic do most of the work.
