takata recall 2010 xf s/c - advice needed
hi all, just wondering if anyone has suggestion / recommendation on any other in or under dash items to have addressed while dealer does the takata airbag recall.
the airbag recall work is free supposedly, but i was wondering if it's then worth it to have them look at or do any other work..
examples that i know to refer to are:
- mechanisms for rotating vents - i read somewhere on forum that these are small and inexpensive plastic pieces that are very easy to "freshen up with new" if the dash is already out. mine seem to work fine with only one vent that sometimes looks a few degrees delayed or out of sequence when rotating with the others.
- dash pad fix - i sort of have this addressed already, but I'll have them look at it.
- there is a tiny rattle / noise seeming under dash near windshield. I'll ask them to look into it.
- my keyless entry range sucks! have changed batteries and bought new fob, but no real improvement.. i'm not certain if the receiver module is the problem or even under the dash, but I'll have them look into it as well.
any other thoughts?
your time is valued and appreciated!

That center speaker and grill tend to be brittle when the dash is removed, make sure its not broken when you get it back. If you have any dash wrinkles now would be a good time to address them.
It wouldn't hurt to have a look at things while the dash it out. Keep in mind that the dash is coming out, so there will be a chance that another rattle could arise. As long as they make sure everything is secure, and not touching other things it shouldn't be, should be alright.
As for your smart key issues - there was a bulletin to replace the transmitter part of the key. This was mainly due to Smart Key Battery Low message, but will most likely solve your problem.

I checked the NHTSA site when this first broke and it showed I wasn't subject to the Takata recall. Then, two days ago, I got a letter in the mail about the airbag recall but the letter said they didn't yet have the right parts. I just checked again and it showed a recall for the airbags. Bummer. How long before they will contact me to get the airbags replaced?

Long Islander,
I own a 2015 XF 3.0 SC AWD with 18,000 miles on the clock.
Just yesterday I received a letter from Jaguar stating that my car is involved in the airbag recall. The letter stated that this is a preliminary notice and that I would be notified again after parts are received which they expect to be 3/28/2019?
The letter stated that after I receive the second letter, I should contact dealer to schedule recall repair which is estimated to take 2 hours
Parts will not be available until one year from now? I thought that this was quite unusual. We also had this airbag recall that involved my wife's 2007 Infiniti M35X which took some time for parts, etc. but nothing like a year from now.

It was a year from the first letter for my Honda Ridgeline. But this postcard I just got doesn't say anything about a wait for parts, rather call immediately to schedule. Plus it just says the passenger side airbag. What about the others?
Jag apparently has given the techs a work around to completely removing the dash to do the recall. I would still mention your dash issues to the service rep though.
Air bag recall may take years to clear. This is from the NHTSA website. I got my notice in the mail last week.
An estimated 37 million vehicles are currently under recall for approximately 50 million defective Takata air bags that can explode when the air bag deploys, causing serious injury or even death. Additional air bags are scheduled to be recalled by December 2019, bringing the total number of affected air bags to around 65-70 million. Takata supplied these defective air bags to many vehicle manufacturers for years, creating one of the largest and most complex recalls in U.S. history.
>Passenger airbag only on my recall notice. And March 2019 until the parts are in....
Yup, got my letter yesterday, same deal, parts expected March 2019.
Has anybody considered deactivating the passenger bag? Is there a fuse for that side? I figure, with the existing seatbelts, that things would be safe enough.

It might be worth contacting you dealer anyway. I got the notice saying parts would only be available in the future but I had to get some other work done and when booking the car in, the Service Adviser mentioned they had the parts available and could do the work. Worth a try if you're looking to get the job done.
