Thinking about getting an XFR
Hi all,
Not new to Jags but looking at a nicely taken care of 2011 XFR with 95k miles on it. Looks like it was pampered by the condition it's in. I have a 98 XJR that I'm doing the major 100k service on and a bit more so I'm curious to all your thoughts on buying that model with the higher miles. I'm hoping not to have to do too much to the car since it's a chore what I'm already doing with my XJR. Any help is greatly appreciated. |
I have a 2010 XFR with 34K miles in near perfect condition, if U R interested

Like the x308, there's much posted on this forum about the need to replace all of the PA66 nylon components in the cooling system as the x250 ages. I've also read several posts about replacing timing chains on higher mileage early 5.0s, tho its not really clear that's a given like the plastics in the cooling system. I'm still under 40K so all I've seen so far is again like the early x308s, Jaguar seems to still have a brain block when it comes to water pump design, replaced twice already. I've also replaced the drivers window motor and looks like the passenger side will not be far behind and one of my key fobs was used exclusively and is already worn out. My x308 was a rock till it hit about 100K and 15 years old, then went downhill fast, springing oil leaks from everywhere as every piece of plastic, rubber or vinyl was starting to crumble, nothing that would leave it on the side of the road, but just lots of little things. 2010 or 2011 is 12 or 13 years younger in terms of the decomposition of organic components, but 95K miles is only 5K less in terms of friction wear and "heat cycling" of those nylon components. Doesn't take very many "minor" repairs to add up so I think the difference in price of the lower mileage offer would probably be well worth it.
I updated (not necessarily an upgrade) to the 2012 XF a couple years ago after the old XJ8 alternator stopped charging on the way to a crucial business meeting (I got there, but barely). I knew at 120K miles and 17 years old, things like that were going to be increasingly likely and so it was time. Took a while to find a low mileage XF the year, motor and options I wanted. I have enjoyed the I-phone connectivity and back up camera as modern features go. Put some paint protection film on the XFs hood tho as I'm getting rock chips like crazy on that slope. I've repainted it twice in two years. Told to wait 90 days for the paint to cure before applying film and already got another chip. Another month and I can touch that up and apply the film. Hopefully that will help. The XJ8 never had chipping issues but its harder steel and doesn't slope down. |
Timing guides would be what I would worry about particularly on a higher mileage one. So check that out thoroughly
Beyond that if well looked after they run on and on. But many low mileage around - not necessarily better but would certainly shop around a bit |
Send me a PM
I'll send some pics Metallic Gray with Black interior Stunning |
Do it - I drove an X350 XJR and the XFR blew it away performance wise (IMO).
I wouldn't be too worried about the milage if it's the right price and been taken care of. |
And ABSOLUTELY get a VIN maintenance report from a dealer.
