Thoughts on Aftermarket Forged Wheels
 

Hello Forum,

With my vehicle being a 2015 XFR-S, I already have Forged Varuna Wheels from the factory.

I need to confirm if the below details are accurate:

• 20x9 ET50, 5x108 Front
• 20x10.5 ET62, 5x108 Rear

Also what are the stock weights of the Varunas?

I am looking at aftermarket Forged Wheels Only, from a hand full of manufacturers:

• Vorsteiner - too expensive
• Vossen - too expensive
• BC Forged - never heard of them till they turned up in this search, and have been reading really good reviews
• Niche Wheels - have heard of them before, but unsure on quality
• Asanti - same as Niche

For now I have it narrowed down to (in no particular order):

• Asanti Monoblock 101
• Asanti Monoblock 114
• BC Forged RZ05
• BC Forged RZ23
• BC Forged RZ21
• BC Forged KL01
• BC Forged RS41
• Niche DTM
• Niche Misano

For all of these I would opt with the following setup:

• 20 x 9.5, 5x108 Front
• 20x11.0, 5x108 Rear
• Color to be Graphite/ Gunmetal/ Dark Grey (pretty much the same thing) or might risk going with a dark Bronze

The determining factor will be:

• Quality/ Build/ Reputation
• Weight Saving
• Cost

Thought I would reach out to the Forum, and see if anyone had any particular advise on the selection listed. Or if you have any other suggestions. I have had some luck on the FType Forum, but I know what works for them wont work for the XF250 platform, different offset for their wheels.

I bought a set of Zenetti BARON rims after a long search, I ran into the same issues of price and fitment.

As a solution for the like butter stock Nevis rims I was getting straightened on a bi annual basis, The rim is forged but the center is cast and then friction welded to the rim, and before anyone doubts the strength of a friction weld, its the same procedure used to attach train wheels to their axels. They are much lighter than stock and have survived a summer with NO bending. The stock rims I run for the winter. The bad, I'd do 20x10 with 285's in the rear if I had a re do.. the 10.5 will rub if I hit dips to fast or have a full backseat, AND ONLY USE JAG PRESSURE SENSORS! Cost me $300 to find out that"s all the car will see without a fault.
Fitment guide I used, It gives the correct offset. I went a little wider than the XFR-S option size.

Thanks Robinus, what I am asking, is if anyone has done aftermarket forged wheels on the X250 platform, and if anyone specifically has experience with BC Forged, Niche Forged, or Asanti Forged Wheels



Thanks Bigg Will, I unfortunately have to go fully forged, or it will be step in the wrong direction with the factory Varunas being forged, the replacements have to be forged.

Hi - what's the overall objective you're trying to achieve? As you already have fully forged you're unlikely to see a major weight saving. And new forged will be expensive. So why not stick with what you have? Are you seeking s different look? Another issues?

Hey, the stock wheels are flow forged but not full forged. So definitely full forged wheels (1, 2, 3 piece forged) will be lighter. I went with 3 piece forged for my xfr-s made by Avante Gard, 20x9 front and 20x11 rear, so i can get good fitment (as flush as possible without rubbing) and clear the front brakes. Unfortunately due to sponsorship rules, i can't disclose offsets. Search my instagram (same name) and you'll be able to see fitment from the front and back. Don't have full pictures yet but can send you some once i'm back from vacation.

I know Savini makes forged wheels. I have the cast versions, but whatever offset they did on mine is perfect. Even if you don't buy theirs, see if you can figure out their recommended offsets.

Fully Forged (which based on Zamir's comments below, leads me to doubt that), doesnt always mean lightest. Manufacturers will over design a wheel or a component, for reliability purposes, so even if the factory wheel is fully forged I should be able to find an aftermarket lighter forged wheel.

The other side of it is personalizing your car, and making it unique to your taste. So going with tasteful modification or two, to say you put your own personal touch on the vehicle.

No issues, other than the stock wheels are very ugly in my own opinion.

I checked out your Instagram, and I did eventually find the wheels, and with them mounted. Did you get a weight saving per corner on your specific setup. They look like a pretty nice 3 piece?

I didn't get a chance to weigh them but when lifting them they were definitely lighter than the stock wheels. And yes they are 3 piece :)

Thanks for chiming in CanadaXFR, not trying knock on what you have suggested, but I have gotten less than ideal feedback on ForgeStar. If you mean Forgeline, they are different and recommended, but Forgestar isn't something I would consider. I hope they work out for you.

I would be interested if you ever got a chance to weigh them so we can actually document what the stock wheels are.

I am going in with perspective of stock wheels are high 20's, so maybe 27lbs for front and 29lbs for rear, and I am told I can get Forged Wheels that are in in the range of 22 fronts and 24 rears, that's a savings of ~5lbs of un-sprung weight per corner. If I get that then great if I don't well I hope they are (worst case) same weight as stock, but are to my taste.

When I get back from my trip I'll be putting the stock wheels on for the winter storage. I'll weigh the wheels then. It'll be a rough weigh in because of different tires (stock set has all seasons that ive had on for a year, summer wheels have new summer tires) and different widths in the rear (10.5 vs 11). Even so, I still think it's lighter, but it could just be my imagination. 3 piece forged are heavier than a 1 piece forged monoblock wheel.

quick comment re: how wide you're planning on going - may have to roll your rear fenders a bit.

i have 10'' wide savini wheels purchased from another member and i rubbed on mid to aggressive bumps, especially under acceleration, on pass rear.

i bought an inexpensive fender roller and heat gun on amazon or ebay and took my time doing it.

no paint cracks and no more rubbing.

still have left over abrasions on outside of my rear 295 tires though :(

I also have 10" Savinis with 295's and have never had rubbing, even with passengers in the back or carrying a fair amount of cargo in addition to having an extra 80 lbs in the spare tire well with my sub box. YMMV

Hey Adam J, I assume you are running 10" in the rear only and not in the fronts?

Wheel width is only part of why wheels may or may not fit... Offset is another huge part, this more or less dictates how for out the wheel will stick in relation to it's centerline in vertical plane. Also if your car is lowered this will affect how wheel will fit. Wheel wells have a natural curvature to them, and the more your recess the wheel into the wheel well the greater chance you will have of rubbing.

In my case the RS already comes with 10.5" (rear) wheels from the factory, but obviously Jaguar new how to setup the car so it doesn't rub. I am not lowered, nor do I intend to lower the car. I stated this in my first post, but based on information I could find online of the Varuna (Stock XFRS) wheels, they are:
20x9 ET50, 5x108 (front) and
20x10.5 ET62, 5x108 (rear),

I plan on going with:
20x9.5, ET45 (details TBC)
20X11, ET56 (details TBC)
Any reputable wheel manufacturer, and competent shop, should be able to guarantee wheel fitment without having to roll fenders.

In the F-Type section of the forum, I came across a group buy thread: VS Forged Wheels Group Buy

I used PK Auto Design's website, and went through some of the configurations for the VS Forged Line, but I couldn't select the offsets that I wanted. Well I naturally called to discuss the matter in detail with an experienced wheel and tire professional, and I am so glad I called, because coincidentally PK Auto Design also sell BC Forged, amongst many other forged wheels, and got to talking with a great guy, that ultimately said if it was his money between the VS Forged, or other Forged Wheel Manufacturers and BC Forged, he would pay the extra for the BC Forged every day. They also happen to be the largest NA distributor of BC Forged.

They got back to me with the details yesterday, and I finally pulled the trigger last night.

I will update with pictures and details upon receipt of the forged wheels, in maybe 6 weeks (could be more due to holidays)...

I am going with a bold choice, so we will see what the finished product looks like. Will keep everyone posted.

Just got a photo of my finished wheels today, they should be in transport by tomorrow or Monday at the latest, so will take better pictures of them, once I have them in hand:

Well a more meaningful update...

I picked up the wheels this afternoon, and first impressions... The wheels are amazing!!!

I unpacked the rear wheel first. Specs on the wheel are 20 x 11, and it weighted in at 24lbs, see below photos:

Next I quickly test fit it, to make sure stance and fitment are correct, see below photos:

Next I will be dropping off all four Wheels at my tire shop to have my MP4S and the TPMS swapped over from my stock XFR-S Wheels, and then I can actually weigh what the stock wheels weigh, and I can finally determine what I have accomplished from a weight saving perspective.

I think once the rubber is on the wheels, and the car is set back on the ground the car will look phenomenal.
