On the XF's, is the S indicative of the 2011 year? Mine is a R6xxxx.

 

I have a 1:1 tie;

my 2012 XF has made it with the new pump, however, my 2012 XJL still has the old pump, according to those numbers.

 

It is my understanding that the 10th position in the VIN is the year..






In your case R comes before S, so that makes it an earlier version

 

just had water pump replaced after a major leak of all coolant, which spit out around the water pump..... had to tow car back to dealer. They replaced water pump and o-ring, and a tube and pipe outlet.... the car has less than 50k.... definitively there is an issue with water pumps....

 

My car is being picked up tomorrow morning.

Last 2 days been smelling hot antifreeze at stop lights and in the garage. The belt has "squealed" 3 times starting off from a stop light, and the coolant level is almost to the bottom of the coolant tub.

Been raining too much to see if it is leaking but I am sure it is the water pump.

My 10 has 63k on it.

 

Confirmed, water pump failure, also the coolant pipe leaking above the pump.

Caught it before the low coolant level light lit and it got hot.

Dealer said that they now have been having issues with the revised pump and he stated there is a third version being worked on.

They hope to have a pump delivered tomorrow, next day air, and get me back on the road before the holiday.

 

My 2011 Jaguar XJL over heated and I now need a new engine. It has 58,100 miles so it is out of warranty. Does Jaguar pay anything on the replacement engine?

 

Well you might want to go to a dealer and see if Jaguar corporate will "good will" a repair for you.

You will be making a lot of calls to the home office, the dealership, jaguar customer care.

 

Now that I've been out of LR for a bit I can see some things haven't changed. I was seeing 2014 3.0 V6 pump failures in addition to all years 5.0 V8 pump failures. The issue, as far as I have been concerned, has not been addressed. The last update I saw before leaving was that the dealers were to allow some crusty buildup but a drip necessitated replacement. Hogwash, I say. We did them all and did not want any of our clients stranded with a huge problem.

 

I took my car in to have my brakes looked at(which I took it to another dealership previously and they said that the rear brakes needed replaced, this dealership says they don't, there's some rust built up on the rear rotors, otherwise they're okay, so it's nice to know the first dealership was trying to screw me out of money)....anyway, my car has a little under 20K under it, and I get a call from the dealership and they tell me they replaced my water pump. I have to say Jaguar isn't leaving a good impression on me.

 

Welp what do you expect from a luxury car

I agree this is a problem that should have been fixed when first identified I have heard of at least THREE revisions to the water pump for the 5.0 engines and they still have problems.

A friend of mine had his crap out in his 2011 supercharged XJL the dealer said it would cost $1,750 to fix we called a local garage and they said labor would be $500. Of course when I took the intake off last week to double check it was the pump the plastic connection where the intake connects to the TB was cracked and falling apart and the vacuum hose that runs from the intake to the front of the engine literally fell apart in my hands.

I have gotten into the habit of opening my hood every time I pull into my garage to get as much heat away from the engine as possible. IMO some of the plastics and rubber they use are not the correct materiel for the amount of heat these engines produce being in Houston just compounds those issues.

 

I expect them to use quality parts on a $70K car. Anyway, mine is the 3.0L, do you know if they use the same water pump as the 5.0L?

I am not sure if the V6 uses the same pump, someone on here should know.

 

The water pump is the same on the 3.0 litre SC and 5.0 litre engines, but is different on the 3.0 litre NA.

 

You mean the 5.0NA?

 

Both NA and SC engines use the same pump.

 

You said different on the 3.0 NA; anyway, when they do fail is 2 years considered "normal?" Mine is an early 2013 build and I got it in July of 2013. I'm willing to forgive some issues on any car but that...with 20k on the car?
