Default XF/XFR Seat Swap

Hello Gents,

i have ave a slight dilemma but I know someone out there has the answer.

I have a 2015 XF 5.0 S/C Premium. I came across a set of 2010 XFR “Red Zone” seats for a complete steal. Before purchasing, I contacted JLR to see if the seats were interchangeable (electrically and mechanically) and I was told “yes. 2009-2015 seats are all interchangeable as long as the seat adjustments are the same”. Obviously, like many other threads I’ve read, they either lied or didn’t know what the $&?! they were talking about.

The seats arrived and 2 of the 3 plugs are different. The one plug that fits has two extra wires (most likely for the headrest) but the wires do not mate up in the same configuration. I would like to re-pin the plugs as my recently purchased seats were delivered with both male/female ends. Electrically, both sets of seats are identical with the exception of the electric headrests. This is not a big deal as I never adjust the headrest anyway and will just pin said wires in an unused slot.

So... the big question is... would anyone be able to provide seat wiring diagrams for both the 2010 XFR and the 2015 XF S/C 5.0 Premium? Any documentation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

If not, any other suggestions? Would it be possible to swap the seat backs and the seat cushions while using the original base frame? Someone throw me a bone 🤔

OK, chew on this bone!: https://www.jaginfo.org/showthread.p...ight=seat+swap
A long and messy thread on the Pommy forum but it should give you some pointers.
The OP on that thread may also be able to point you to the wiring diagrams you are after.

Thank you. I have read this thread and didn’t find any information pertinent to my situation.

I could figure it out by trial and error but my main concern is deploying an air bag and ruining a seat. If I knew which wires were for the air bags, I could leave these out of the equation altogether. Hell, I’m from Texas. When I was a kid, I used to travel across state in the back of a pick-up truck. I didn’t use a seat belt much less need an air bag...

i may may just have to work backwards and trace the air bag actuators back to the seat bottom (if possible)

Here's all the diagrams and connector locations I used when swapping newer seats into my 2010 XF - you should be able to use them in reverse:

Classic example of Too Much Information. I’m pretty sure this is all I need to keep myself busy for a while. The only question I have is....is the 2012 diagram the same for the 2015 as my XF is a 2015? If so, I have more than I need. Many thanks

I'm not certain but I'll say: Probably. At least you should be able to check if the connectors/wiring colors etc on yours match up to the 2012 diagrams.

Possibly a dumb question but here goes. Is it possible to just swap the seat backs/cushions and put them on the original seat frame to avoid the wiring fiasco altogether?

Almost certainly. But I'm better at electronics than needlework, so I chose fiasco Plus the XFR seats I fitted into mine had more adjustments etc on lumbar so the wiring/upgrade was worth it.

The only difference in options between the two seats is the headrest so no biggie. Went to the JLR dealership today and the parts dept. told me that the seat frames are the same from 2009 to 2015. I swapped the passenger seat/back today (took approximately 2 hours). All of the plugs within the seat are exactly the same so I was happy to see that. I will reinstall the seat tomorrow and give an update. My main concern right now is lowering the headrest permanently because I can’t control the motor and it won’t budge. I just need it for 5 seconds. If all goes well with the install, I will complete the drivers seat next weekend.

if anyone knows how to lower the headrest without power, please let me know. Again, I only need to do it one time and it will stay at its lowest point.

Bolted the passenger seat in yesterday, plugged it in and everything (air, heat, lumbar and positioning) works perfectly. I applied voltage to the headrest and was able to lower it. Now for the drivers seat this afternoon.
