Default XFR Charge pump Change/Upgrade

If I'm quiet, I'm up to something..LOL
Well after seeing the Russians do this mod and given the fact Higgins has 65k on him, I decided its now a good time to do this pump change on my terms rather than on its terms. Plus it was time for my yearly coolant change, and my oil change (Gonna be doing changing the oil every 3 to 4k mi. and the filter every other oil change from now on, with Wal Mart Synthetic..lol let the comments begin!)
Tools, Small size torx sockets, electrical wire prep tools, nippers, spring hose clamp pliers, coolant. ETC..
About a days work. Not a hard job, just involved and a bit messy. Removing and installing that front splash shield was the cusser!

Bosch 010 Pump, bought off Ebay for $115. Its basically the factory M-B AMG replacement pump used on the M113K 5.5L supercharged engine

The M-B connector. On the Bosch pump the + and- leads are marked, the pos blade needs to be connected to the cars wire with red stripe.

Connector and wire PN.

Old pump next to the new pump, Old pump removal is fairly easy. 1 8mm bolt on the top, remove 2 hoses. Pump electrical wire built up too. all of the old pumps rubber will transfer over to the new pump. be sure to check the clock position of all the rubber hoses and mounts on the old pump for the move to the new pump.

This is the pumps lower rubber suspension, I had too trim with nippers to fit it over the hose and on the new pump.

This is the Gates heat shrink hose clamp I used to give me clearance to use the old pumps lower rubber suspension. I've never had one leak, they re tighten each time they heat up and can be trimmed or cut with a soldering iron, to fit in weird, tight places or around odd shapes.

New pump ready for install next to new pump. Be sure and bucket prime the new pump right before you install it.

New pump.

New pump in car.

New pump in car.

Thanks for the info. I've never seen that powergrip clamp before, but it's a perfect solution for my coolant overflow hose. Thanks!

I've been using them for years and have NEVER had one leak, and unlike screw clamps, the pressure is equal all the way around the clamp. The only bad thing is you have to cut it off (I melt them off with a soldering iron).

Tried searching but couldn't find an answer... what is this for? Is this a preventative fix to the coolant pump failure that is common on the 5L supercharged V8s?

It can also be used on the 4.2L Supercharged cars. It's considered a cooling upgrade. It flows more than the stock unit.

Pretty cool and looks way better than what the previous owner did. I assume you just use a lighter or a torch?

I actually use a heat gun

Used them on all my LS6 hoses. ITS AN LS6, a manual LS1 TB had to be used as the LS6 only used drive by wire.

Gates changed the lettering from green to white.

Interesting. I would have thought that if a heat gun would work on it, the temp of a coolant hose would be too much for it to remain stable. That would be really easy then.

It actually does not take much heat to shrink them, just think electrical heat shrink tubing on steroids..lol

IDK, my guess it will let me stay in the boost longer, and bring the temps down faster. I did it more as a preventive measure, they go out with out warning other than the dreaded limp home mode, 60 to 80kmi seems to be the magic number for their life and Jag wants about $400 just for the pump. Its an easy and cheap mod/fix and as I said I was going to be under there anyways, so any performance gains is just gravy.

Interesting. We don't have a high flow pump for the STR and I have replaced my stock one in the past because it failed. Really did not notice much change.

When it's summer here it's always into heat soak!

I've had this same Bosch 010 pump fitted to my XJR since 2012

Since you run yours at the track. Did you gain anything with the change?

I never ran it at the track with the old pump fitted so I can't give you the answer you're looking for.

Also, are the gates hose clamps really necessary? Mine seems like the factory clamps will work just fine

Well if you want to use the factory hanger the factory clamps are too thick for the 010 pumps outlet.
