With ref to Jim's request for stickies I think

that this should be included:

Agreed and should be a sticky in the X150 forum as well. Thanks for posting.

Interestingly, there is a link for testing out the MOST BUS network too which would also benefit X150 owners.

This should also be added if it isn't already.

Thought I could add a comment here on what I suffered

04 xj8 n/a

(She) cat threw the abs light

10 miles later , cat went into transmission gear faults and basically wouldn't shift out of second gear . Felt incredibly a bit like the trans was toast clanks and squeals and all kinda sh!t. So I replaced the driver rear abs sensor with a rock auto part and boom , all was perfect again

transmission didn't like what the abs sensor wasn't saying and acted up for it

Last week a similar series of events happened to my 2008 XJR. Trip #1 ABS fault & 20 miles home. Trip #2 ck engine light on start, after 2nd shopping stop 2nd, neutral, repeat, repeat, gearbox fault and 10 miles home in 2nd. Car has been at dealer for 3 1/2 days. Haven't heard anything.

Can we get a run down on behaviors to look out for and/or symptoms?

I have 80k miles on my supercharged 2010 5 liter, and this makes me nervous.

JagV8 12-01-2017 12:29 PM

On the S-Type, almost any engine fault (emissions etc) has been known to upset the ZF - because the PCM & TCM co-operate and can't do that properly with faults occurring.

Fix any engine faults before worrying about the trans!

Hi, I have just rebuild transmission of jaguar XF 4.2 Supercharged V8
1) new gearbox without valvebody (older one had defect -on drag start something spinned and metal sounds inside, no torgue at those moments also very slight rmp jumping when driving in 6 gear 1400rpm uphill)
2) valvebody rebuild- a)new solenoids (except green mv3 and black mv2 on the other side) b) new acumulators pistons (old ones were worn all except one) separator palte left the same as it looks realy good.

before rebuilt car shifted pretty good, no errors.after rebuild (gearbox adaptation reset done and adaptation cycle as well) there is some diference in better way. they are slightly better.

but the same problem stayed with shifting- when i drive very slowly gears should be changed in 1400-1600rpm 1-2 fine, 2-3 fine then 3-4 does not changes until 1900-2000rpm and before change is pause, like computer waits(sometimes 4-5seconds. sometimes if i do not push gas or especialy try to release gass it changes at lower. the same (maybe even worse symptom is 4-5. and 5-6 again is prety fine. it makes even worse when i switch to manual mode- i cant change 3-4 and i think 2-3 as well if i will not put rpm more than 1800RPM jaguar says my engine shoudl change at 1400-1600rpm.

if i drive agresively all gears before and after rebuild swithes fast and smooth. i look at sonax kit- what else needed to be changed, where problem lies? or it could be electronic problem?

thanks in advance.

could be oil seals on the gear solenoid, or the solenoid filter seive, at low SPEED the oil presure is lower so will take time to shift, on higher rmp presure is higher so will shift fast,

ALSO could be gneral low pressure, but if other gears OK, will be around the solenoid for that gear issue,

Hello.

I have a 2011 XFR with 95k miles. Recently while shifting from first to second gear I can hear a faint clunk. also I can feel it in the gas pedal. It usually only happens on the very first shift from first to second gear. Although occasionally it will happen on the downshift from second to first gear, but when that happens it's much more aggressive. This is all while driving slow.

I guess I should have the trans and diff fluid changed. I don't think it's a transmission or engine mount?

Somewhere I rememeber reading that this transmission has a plastic piece that is prone to breaking. Not sure if this is related and I cant seem to find that post. Thanks!

Did you ever fix the issue with the fluid change? Or what?

Another cause that happened to me was taking it to a reputable detailer, mind you I only had an exterior listed for cleanup but the guy was doing me a favor and trying to get rid of the "sticky/gum like situation" (apparently you can clean this off with ease w/lotion or eyeglass lens wipes) since I had mentioned it (didn't think hed do anything about it) but anyways as hes detailing the inside the volume controller/buttons he was dropping product inside the Gearbox, Terrible day for me as I just bought the car and had to have it towed to JLR. Someone before stated they had the same situation apparently they just let their car sit like that and waited till the product dried out and saved himself the headache jaguar prices these things. On the bright side I had new buttons and a much more New gearbox :D but short 3000$ for aesthetics D: well I guess I shouldve just waited but wasnt sure what caused the problem to begin with (thought they mightve sold me a Lemon at first) took them a week in a half to figure the problem even had to call in a "SPECIALIST" just to handle the job. Just an example of learn off me and not doing this to yourself (NEVER GOING TO GET THIS CAR DETAILED AGAIN DO IT MYSELF RIGHT OR DONT AT ALL).

clubairth1 10-15-2022 11:29 AM

Cleaning the sticky buttons has nothing to do with your transmission??
No way for cleaner to drop into the gearbox either??? If they told you that it's wrong.
It's a sealed unit?

Please do, because I don't know how anything could possibly get into the gear box from inside the car. Not to mention to be able to spill a large enough quantity to affect the gear box. If that was possible, anytime someone spilled a drink around the shift knob, the transmission would be getting messed up.

clubairth1 10-18-2022 09:00 AM

The invoice is meaningless? Take a look at the car? It can't happen regardless of how many forum member's claim it's true?
It would be a terrible design if that was possible just think about it.

>get into the gear box from inside the car.

Ok, perhaps we have misunderstanding ...
Did the detailer cause fluid to splash over the shifter and could it have drained down the side and dripped on the mechanisms below the shifter?
I had a friend with a Merc who spilled a soft drink over the shifter and ended up shorting out everything under the center console.

Much amusement was had.

XF Automatic 8 Speed

Good Morning

Does anyone know if it is possible to reprogram the second hand 8 speed auto box which I have recently had fitted with an engine I purchased. It would appear that the ECU is within the gearbox and my old one has now gone so stuck with just the first few gears until I can hopefully find someone who can change the VIN to match the car.

Any help gratefully received and I can get the car to anyone within a reasonable distance to have the work done

Appreciate your help everyone
