Just a question, I work away from home & sometimes my car can stand and not get used (for upto a month) but has anyone had issues with the battery going flat (discharged). I've got other cars & had other cars which I've been able to leave for quite a while & just come back and start but the Jag is possibly the worst I've had for just going flat (& then it'a a pain to get to the battery). The battery is self is fairly new (and good qualiry) and was replaced since the person I bought the car off (who was my son!) had similar issues. Is this a common fault with the car? Thanks for your help

Reason: typo
Some people seem to have this problem on a regular basis and it is recommenced to install a battery tender if the car is not driven regularly. In fact if you go to a Jaguar dealer I have found all the cars on the floor will have a battery maintainer on them. Jaguar also recommends a certain brand which I can't remember right now.
Also recommended is to lock the car completely (mirrors folded in) and store the keys far enough away from the car so it does not see the keys. Remember we want the car to go to sleep so no action to wake up the electrical system which then takes another 45 minutes to time out.
But I have a 2014 XJR and it has sat for over 6 weeks at the airport and started right up with no problems and I am still on the factory battery!
Plus I never lock the car in my garage and the keys are stored about 15' from the car.
One indication I use is does the start/stop system function? If it does that's a VERY good indicator that both your batteries are well charged.
Post back if you can if this helped any. These seems to be a wide range of issues but yes late model cars of any brand appear to have battery problems as a regular complaint.
You did not say but is your start/stop function working now?

I,m actually overseas , my wife tried to start the car so it will be flat for a couple of more days until my son comes round! When you say stop/start function are you just referring to the push button on the dash ?
Edit- my son has just explained that stop start is an energy efficiency set up which came in a year after my car was made, so my car only has one battery .
Prior to the 2013 model, that had significant updates, owners have had problems with the battery draining quickly. From 2013 on the ECO stop/start feature was added along with major updates to the electrical system and fast draining battery issues were, for all practical purposes, were eliminated
Jaguar parts departments sell an accessory item - a Jaguar-branded battery maintainer manufactured by CTEK that is identical to the CTEK 3300. It's available on Amazon for significantly less, but doesn't have the Jaguar name and logo.
To minimize battery drain, you should always:
(1) lock your car, even when parked in your garage, to shut off the computers that stay active in convenience mode;
(2) never leave your Smartkey fob in your car, as that keeps the computers awake;
(3) keep your Smartkey fob at least 15 feet away from your car; and
(4) use a CTEK battery maintainer to keep your battery fully charged, particularly if your XJ is not driven at least 25 miles daily.
Even if you don't have any problems starting your XJ, regular use of a CTEK or other quality battery maintainer (I don't recommend the Battery Tender brand) will extend the life of your battery and minimize electrical gremlins.

Many thanks, Stuart S . My son has a CTEK unit he says I can have. I will get in connected in one way or the other. The good thing I'm picking up from the Forum is I probalby don't have a fault specific to my car (which was a concern) , rather it's an issue endemic to the model.. Thanks, RonS
Connecting it is easy, just make sure to connect the negative (black) CTEK lead to a chassis ground and not the battery. I used the alligator clips and have had no problems, but you can also use nuts to permanently secure the + and - pigtails. See the photos in the above link. Any CTEK model will suffice.
I'm going on a year with my 15 and I've replaced all 8 injectors, the diff, and water pump and lines. Other than that the car has been great, and I'm still in love with it.
