I bought a 2011 XJl today, and at the dealer we found the sunroof shades wouldn't retract, but the salesman said it had worked when he got it a few days ago, but he would knock off a grand because of it. Neither will open, neither make any sounds. I have checked the fuse in the manual in the luggage compartment (F21 30A), tried the reset procedure shown in the manual, and disconnected and reconnected the battery, to no avail. The only 2 buttons that work on the light console are the parking assist, the light, and the rear windshield shade. Are there any other fuses, or procedures I should try to get them to open?

 

had the same issue on my 2011 car, they had to replace the motor.

 

I was able to fix it by pulling out the F21 fuse with the car off, checking the fuse for continuity with a multimeter, cleaned off the contacts with a wire brush, cycled the cars ignition with the fuse out, then turned off the car and put the fuse back in and voilą! All the shades and sunroof now work as normal.

 

Well then, you made yourself an easy $1000. Congratulations!!!
