Default 2011jaguar xj heated steering wheel help/problem

Good day all...today I went to use my heated steering wheel and the light came in as it has always but it turned off after about a minute or so. After I got to where I was going I turned off car and after about 20 min I got back in and left. I turned on the heated steering wheel again and same thing. Just after about a minute or so it turns off and won’t turn in again. Anyone have any idea what is going on here. I have extended warranty for the car but not sure if this will be covered so thought I would ask here first.

any help would be appreciated if. Thanks in advance.

Riccixj, just taking a guess as to what is happening, I would say that your temp sensor in the steering wheel is sensing the steering wheel as being too hot. In this case, the sensor is reading an erroneous temp and it is turning the steering wheel off. If it isn't that, then it is something in the computer controlling the steering wheel. I would say to turn on the steering wheel heat and let it go for its minute or so and then touch all the way around the steering wheel to see if there is a hot spot. If this is the case, then odds are we are looking at the sensor issue or a failed steering wheel heater. If all feels at the same temp, could still possibly be a temp sensor or it can be the computer controlling things.

Riccixj,

When mine failed it was diagnosed as the clock spring and the entire wheel was replaced (under warranty) . In my case the wheel would heat up fine until it was turned more than 30-40 degrees, at which point it would cut off.

Is your cut off rotation related?
