Default Dome light swap 10-15 to 2016+

I searched and didn’t see anything.

The 2015 and older XJ’s on the dome light assembly do not have a sunglasses compartment. The 2016 on up DO. I loathe not having proper place to put my glasses, as silly as that may sound, in my XJ.

Has anyone done the conversion? Is it possible? The units look like they might have the same foot print but the 2016 has different button layouts.

I'm assuming the answer is no given that Jaguar change the button layout and configuration. The 2016 units are so cheaply available on EvilBay that it might be worth being the guinea pig if someone else hasn’t attempted already.

Watching with interest as the lack of the sunglasses holder always seemed weird to me too? Ton's of much cheaper cars have them and I kind of consider that as a standard equipment now a days.
Thanks as I did not know Jaguar finally fixed that on the 2016+ cars.
The do look close in size so possibly it would bolt in just need to figure out the electrical part. It would be great if the electrical was the same and they just added the compartment!

Well, since it was a pretty inexpensive risk, I went ahead and bought a black one off EvilBay. I'm doing an interior lighting conversion to LED and that panel has to come out anyway to change the map lights so I'll go ahead and see what I can lean. I'm thinking it will fit but the wiring is going to be what stop all progress. I would think if it was a plug-and-play thing, someone over the last 5 years would have thought of the conversion and tried it by now. LOL

Yes the newer ones have two extra buttons. One is the SOS system which the early cars don't have. The other button has a wrench and phone symbol on it and I don't know what that does?

Sorry to say... but that is not a sunglass compartment in the facelift overhead console. Its actually a blank area. Doesn't open or does anything.

at least not in my XJ.

Wow.

The new Jaguar 2025 design change makes even more sense.

*facepalm*

They even sell a kit to repair it so…maybe it became one I later years.

Maybe someone with a newer XJ can chime in.
