Front door speaker causing vibration with bass FIXED
 

New to the forum so hi everyone!

Just acquired my first Jag! A 2012 XJ which I've craved for some time. So far enjoying pretty much every aspect of the car.

I did notice though with certain bass frequencies I was getting a nasty vibrating noise coming from the passenger front door.

I've seen lot's of mention of this and as far as I can see people were suggesting soundproofing the door or replacing the speaker itself.

Today I thought I'd have a look for myself and the so I took the door card off which was very simple once the pesky walnut trim was unclipped!

I removed the speaker and found the problem straight away. The yellow diaphragm on the rear of the speaker had started to separate from the frame, approx half the way round.

To repair it's simply a case of raising the diaphragm slightly and super gluing it back to the black frame. I also ran a bead around the effected area as the material is porous to seal it nicely.

This is identical to a problem the mazda 6 suffers with it's bose system so that'd be a good guide to follow.

Interesting - ours had a loud buzz at certain frequencies, but I found it to be the more commonly-reported problem of that cardboard button glued into the center of the back - in the middle of the speaker.

Great fix.
However, since those speakers now approaching 10 years old, I'd do replacement with brand new speakers for continued enjoyment...

Along that line, is there an aftermarket speaker, that would be a 100% compatible replacement, or are we limited to new, OE speakers?
