HID Stains on Headlights

Hi,

Car: 2013 XJ with 15k miles, under warranty, garage-kept.

Issue: there are identical white spots on my headlights which mirror the HID light spot. The inside of the glass cover (or a protective layer inside, if there is one) has been burnt by the HID light, leaving the white stains. All equipment is standard. The dealer seems to be hesitant to address this issue as part of my warranty.

Question: has any of you seen anything like this? What is the best way to present my case to the dealer?

Thanks.

That sounds like to me that the heat from the bulb has caused something inside the headlight housing to become vapor and it has come to rest in that spot. So, in my opinion, this is a warrantee issue. Keep pushing the issue. Regardless of the reason, the headlight housing has a defect. It should be replaced.

I don't seem to have this issue on my 2013 XJL.

I would suggest asking your dealer if he can show this same condition on any 2011-2013 used XJs he may have for sale, or in for service. If he cannot, then it would seem to indicate yours is a special case that needs addressing.

I believe their are instructions in the owners manual or service guild on how to go about getting satisfaction or arbitration if that is what is needed. I assume you have gone up through the chain-of-command at your dealership, up to and including the owner; if not, that is the first thing I would do, remaining pleasant but firm. Often the owner may have a wider perspective than sales or service people on his staff, including "managers".

Good luck resolving this issue.

Thanks for the feedback.

I walked around the service area and none of the other Jaguars (and Land Rovers) had this issue. I didn't see anything similar in the streets, either.

My 2011 XJL has the same problem as well. Requested for a change many months ago but never got around to getting it replaced and has gotten used to it now.

Called another Jaguar dealer nearby. They ordered new headlights while I was on the phone with them, no questions asked.

That is the dealer I would do all my business with in the future; someone who goes to bat for their customers!
