Just replaced my front lower control arm bushings at 52k miles

I installed those arms over the weekend and they're an exact match. Ride and handling is back to spec. Very pleased.

the urospare bushings are not a hydro bushing like oem, that aside did you get an alignment done afterwards?? You need to

No I haven't gotten the alignment done yet. I just made some marks on the washers and bolts and lined them back up as best I could.

I don't know whether they are in fact hydro or solid rubber...but they looked and felt exactly the same and the ride and handling is excellent. The hydro bushings on my old arms were torn all the way through.

I always mark so I can get back in close orientation. However you have to loosen the bolts to relax tension when tightened in the air. if you don't it preloads the bushings and they are twisted leading to premature failure and alignment issues. And even though marked you ALWAYS align when done it is always off. I used to buy those bushing before I found the oem for less and found them split again and no leakage. I pressed the rubber out of the shell when I replaced and yep, no fluid. You may not notice as its there for NVH(noise vibration harshness) reduction. When youre a engineers measuring with sophisticated measuring tools you can pick up the difference and every little bit adds up

Default Front lower control arms

Yes. My 2014 XJL AWD lower control arms are being replaced now too. 53k mi. Discovered during annual inspection. I asked them to check as I was occasionally experiencing a little steering wheel shimmy. Not a crisis and could probably have driven it many more miles before changing them out.

Inspection, oil change and front lower control arms, slightly over $1600 (half of which was labor).

The short life of the suspension bushes was one reason I decided to move on from my 2nd XJ (X350 model). Lets face it, these things should last a lot longer than they do. The spring unit lower bushes last even less time, and the rear lower wishbone bushes are also short life. Maybe one day Jaguar will cotton on to the fact that their name is mud when it comes to durability.

Probably the biggest clue is anything leaking from the bushings. Same for the motor mounts as they are liquid filled too.
But we have had people with what looked to be good bushings and after much work they replaced them and fixed the problem. So my point is yes inspect the bushings but that might not tell you anything unfortunately.

+1 In the past, I've been able to see the fluid leaking out of the bushing but not this last time. You could only see that the bushing was wrecked once the arm was completely removed from the car.
