Just be careful which one you buy. There is no guarantee any aftermarket one will program to car. Seen some work and some dont. Its a gamble every time.

Read this thread, in particular my Post #2:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...lp-fob-192386/

The Smartkey is electronically paired at the factory to a module in your car. The car is the parent and the Smartkey is the child. A used Smartkey is an orphan and won't work on another car unless it has first been divorced (electronically cleared) from its parent. Once cleared, it should be able to be paired to a new parent using the proprietary Jaguar software.

If you buy a used Smartkey, get a written, 100% money back guarantee from the seller if that Smartkey is unable to be paired to your car and be fully functional.

Maybe check your existing fob and ensure you have the metal emergency door key, as well. If you want a spare of this, be prepared to do some digging. I'm replacing the shell of my second fob, which at one time was used as a chew toy It took several trips to local shops to find someone who could duplicate the door key. My last hope was the largest and oldest locksmith in the Baltimore area. Nobody else had the necessary equipment. Forty bucks, and I supplied the blank! BTW, the 2012 model uses a Ford mechanical door lock and key, FYI.
I'll report back if/when the knockoff shell replacement works.

Were you able to sort out what key fob is required for your 2011 XKR? How did you get it programmed? Any and all information you could share would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2011 XK with one working smartkey and would like to add a second, but don't want to pay the dealership $490+.

Again, your help is greatly appreciated.

Raymond,
Why are you asking about the Smartkey for an XKR (X150) in the XJ (X351) Forum? They don't use the same key. Read this entire thread:

Buyer Beware if you buy a used Smartkey on Ebay. See my Post #21 in that linked thread.
