Default My JAG 2010 3.0 D

Hello everyone.
After posting some post i think it's time for a little introduction of my Jag. So instead of postting at the general forum i'm creating a post here, so i could update it from time to time with my X351 experience and problems getting more active responce from you, as this place is best for X351 owners.

So I am from Lithuania (Eastern Europe), always thought of Jaguar as greate car to drive and loving X351 design from the 2009 it was introduced.
But my car ownership started from Ford Fiesta 1.1, which in some years was rebuild to RST (1.6 turbo) and then Zetec Turbo (2.1 turbo) modification (what is mostly popular in UK). So that fun car is still standing in garage, having problem with clutch, as it has too much torgue for standard setup and additional mods are needed.
For a while i drove Lancia Delta which i loved for its white alcantara interior and electric setup (because for 1996 car, having folding electrical mirrors, a/c, and all the additional indicators on the dashboard seemed like something out of future for such class car).
Then i went for two Volvo XC70 in a row. And still driving it, as it is creat option having comfort, AWD, and all the space during house building. And as someone told me - if you become Volvo owner, you won't change it for anything. There is some truth in it. And don't throw stones at me, bus i really like my Volvo seats (2002-2006) and find them more comfortable than XJ. Maybe becaus they are more of that american comfort.

And as my first born was coming to this world, last September i saw this Jag, looking for a new owner. But it had a small problem - it had engine failure. The engine was starting and car was running, but from the sound it seemed like crankshaft (and it was really broken).
It was sold by our countries main biggest car dealer, so not much info on cars history. As for last few years they could not sell it and used it as technical directors car.

Have checked the history of the car on the web and got that kind of info (it is fun to fell a little of detective trying to match all the dates, points and clues)
It had some accident in 2016-06, while it looks like many parts damaged, but damage was 1500-3000 eur. And after 1 month after accident 2016-07 it already passed the MOT. So damage shouldn't be big.

Then it looked like mileage has been changed.

So having all that in mind, its broken endine, and realizing, that i just can't leave this car to die - i bought it for 5900 eur.
It's first registration was 2010-12-17, that means it was someones christmas present, so it also was my early christmas present.

Dealer was selling it as Supersport edition, but i am not sure it is right. Probably fenders have been changed, as from interior trim, rims, interior setup it looks like it is Portfolio. As Supersport were only 5.0l models. Maybe someone could comment on that if i am wrong. And maybe it is possible to find info on how to read VIN code for this model, because as i know it always shows the manufacturer, model, edition, trim information.

So next step was to fix the engine. Got it to repair shop and stripped the engine. Saw the broken crankshaft and few bent con rods. Made part list needed for repair.Got the prices from local part dealers and decided to go to ebay. Getting all the parts from UK (and few from Germany), was twice cheaper than getting everything from locals.
Tryed contacting the official Jaguar dealer in here, but as always they suggested to change the whole engine, as they just take it out and put the full new engine in it. The price would be not less than 20k.
And had checked the part pricing with them, and seeing, that original tyre pressure sensor that in UK frol official dealer costs 100-120 eur(including shipping), was priced here 220 eur, decided not to have any services or parts from them.

So here are things that had to be changed:
Cranksahft, 2 con rods, hyds and lifter, chains, head bolts, piston rings, all seals and gaskets, oil pump, engine oil and gearbox oil coole, tentioners, main belt and all the engine liquids. Also bought a new battery as the old one was dead.
So the purchase, registration, insurance, parts and repair works summed up to 14k eur. Also the ECU was remmaped because the DPF was cut out by previous owner. (i think, that there were 4 of them, because had 4 phones connected in the memory).
Having in mind, that such models here are sold for 16-18k, and even the best condition used car needs overall checkup and maintenance, i think it was worth it.

Additionally bought a set of 19" rims and new tyres for winter, chinesse tyre pressure monitor sensors (40 eur set), new key fob (40 eur)

Few weeks ago saw the steam from engine bay and coolant dissapearing. So had a checkup and find the coolant cap valve broken. it was leaking and had to be change.

Also have some fixes in the future:
-Have to find the way to open glove box
-Windsreen has a nasty crack, that i found after repair shop, and dont remember it while buyng. Or maybe it was small crack spreading because of long time windscreen heating with 20cm snow on it.
-And everything else, what is coming up in future

So thats it for now.

You have been very brave and have lots of stamina. Respect! Your adventure wasn't exactly cheap, but sure it is rewarding, once the car is up and running again.
After so much effort,it would be fitting, if the discolored center console was fixed somehow. Many of these fine cars suffer from this color change from piano black to something blue/violet. Others were able to source wrapping foil which matches the wood panels. A good paint job in high glass black also could do the trick.
Still, impressive work! I would not even think about such a stunt...

Thanks and that i did not know about console. . Although i was wondering, why that colour differs in pictures so much, I have never thought, that blue shade is discolouration.
As they had interior options with Navy leather colour, and the one that had some "rave levander" glovebox lining thought either that was from other colour model, or kind of Jags signature element of new design.

But thats an element to fix among others. Maybe will have to look for some parts from year 2016 +, if it will fit
Also have broken pen holder in central compartment where hand brake lever it hidden.
Next is missing boot fuse box cover. Cant fint it anywere.
Need to polish front headligths as those are getting blury ant yellowish. And at some point will have to change front windshield. So much more to go.

Got more questions about several issues i got with my car:
1. Tyre pressure monitoring system (before 2016). How to check if it exists and works? Should there be any menu options, icons on screen. I put the sensors on tyres, but cant figure out if they are not working, are they wrong model (there were two Hz options), or the system is absent on my model)
2. Fuel cap safety device. Noticed that i can not put fuelling pistol into it and saw the yellow safety cap.

The fuel is flowimg in though i have to hold pistol all the time.
can it be reseted without special tool shown in manual?

Yes. I had same problem. The solution was to use an old fork - just fit the two prongs of the fork so that they fit into the top holes and push them in.
