Default Oil specs WSS

For my 2013 XJ v6 SC rear wd

The book seems to call for WSS M2C913 - c 5w30

but the oil cap calls for a 2W20 Castrol with no spec mentioned
Castrol web site (and Mobil 1 site) say they do not have an oil for this car.

Assuming it takes a 5W20, What WSS Spec does it need?

The dealer service folks have not been helpful.

I'm having a problem determining the proper oil For my 2013 XJ v6 SC rear wd.
The owner's manual says 5W-30 WSS2C913-C. The oil filler cap says 5W-20 Castrol with no spec mentioned.
Castrol web site (and Mobil 1 site) say they do not have an oil for this car. but on the phone Pennzoil say a 2014 (not 2014) takes WSSM2C925-A. M2C945-A has superseded that I think.

Assuming it takes a 5W20, What WSS Spec does it need? And where can I get it except from a Jag dealer?

The dealer service folks have not been at all helpful.

Thanks for your help.

I answered this yesterday but the response was lost as the Mods were in the middle of combining your duplicate posts.

The owner's manual trumps what's written on the filler cap and what Castrol or Mobil say.

I suspect the problem is that this particular owner's manual doesn't make clear exactly which 3.0 litre motor (turbo diesel or SC petrol) that oil is recommended for. Either that or the OP isn't reading the manual correctly, but of course this is impossible to tell without the actual manual in hand!
Having owned all three variants - 3.0 turbo diesel, 5.0 SC petrol and 3.0 SC petrol - I'm fairly sure the recommended 5W-30 oil is/was only ever for the diesel motor, and the recommended oil for either or both of the SC petrol motors is/was either 5W20 or 0W20, with 5W20 being for the earlier motors and 0W20 being for later motors and/or "extreme conditions".

The diesel version was not sold in N. America.

Yeah, I knew that, but the question still remains, what exactly does the 2013 XJ owner's manual that we are talking about say about recommended oil?
Seeing as JLR tend to supply fairly generic owner's manuals that are not even remotely tailored to the specific car, I wouldn't be surprised if this owner's manual wasn't altered sufficiently for NA to exclude everything specific to the diesel motor, and it could still be talking about the diesel in some areas such as recommended oil. The main reason I suspect this may be the case is the poster's claim that the manual recommends 5W30 oil, when to my knowledge this was only ever for the diesel motor and never for the petrol 3.0 petrol SC. However, if the recommended oil for the early 3.0 petrol SC was in fact 5W30 then I'll happily eat my hat!

Ya got me Mikey, well played! Now to find a nice small and tasty hat!
Although I was simply playing devil's advocate just in case the manual recommended the wrong oil - case in point, the recent snafu with AWD oil changes.

I learned The oil requirement changed 2013 to 2014 which could account for the difference between what is in my owner's manual and written on the oil fill cap. I guess I'll have to check by the serial - vin number. My car is a late 2013

Here are ALL the lube requirements for 2013 and 2014 XJ

Ecamiel, I am searching for the correct oil to put in my 2014 V6 3.0 L SC and have pulled up your thread. Castrol customer service advises that the Castrol 5W-20 Professional OE with spec WSS M2C925-A is the specified oil to use for my car. That is confirmed by the dealer. Castrol does not advise using Castrol oils adhering to WSS M2C945-A and say that the two specs are significantly different. Castrol does not agree with your info above and does not recognize that WSS M2C925-A is "superseded" by WSS M2C945-A and want to see something official from Ford or Jaguar confirming this info on letterhead.
Please advise what your source was for this information.
I'm trying to buy oil by the quart. I can find commercially available Castrol oil meeting the WSSM2C945-A spec. My local Jag dealers that have WSSM2C925-A only buy it in bulk and can't sell it to me by the quart.

If that doesn't satisfactorily answer the specification question then nothing will short of a letter signed in blood by Dr Ralf Speth.

on the phone Pennzoil say a 2014 (not 2014) takes WSSM2C925-A. M2C945-A has superseded that I think. The other information, including the "supersedes" is from the Amsoil web site. Castrol would give me NO information and Jag dealers want from $600 to $900 for an oil change

Yep you hit the problem on the head.
Very few oils meet the WSS M2C925-A spec.

I also thought the later WSS M2C945-A spec would have superseded the 925 one BUT can't find that in writing anywhere. So we are back to getting it from the dealer (if you can!) for whatever they charge.
It's on EBay too but at $19/L!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Castrol-Edg...53.m1438.l2649

Here it is for $80/6 pack!

Damn. My dealer charges $150 for a complete oil change. That is like $30 above costs. You need a new dealer.

Default oil change

Yes, I, and Jaguar, need new dealers.I tried 3 different dealers, all of whom were badly reviewed on Google.

Both those EBay auctions show the back label with WSS-M2C925-A and a B?

Hope we don't need to get the A or B version too??
