Default Warning lights on dash/electrical problems

Good Afternoon, My 2014 xjl occasionally has a delay with the instrument panel lighting up but after a few minutes all is well. The newest thing is
on the drivers side vanity mirror will not light up and on the dash the
auto light delay sign goes on and off it will say auto lights 30sec delay, or
auto light off all random and this happens out of the blue. When shutting of the engineI have no problem with the lights shutting off automatically.
Any ideas???

Many thanks

With weird electrical faults on a modern Jaguar, the first thing to check and eliminate is the battery - state of charge and condition.

Batteries usually last around five years but, as they age, all kinds of unusual and random electrical faults can occur. Worth getting it checked before looking deeper into the electrical system.

For the auto lights/mirror dimming issue - if the battery is ok, the lighting stalk may be the culprit. That stalk in particular seems to wear quite quickly and the first signs are usually with the selector ring dropping in and out of dipped beam or intermittent full beam flashing when driving over bumps even though the switch position does not change. I have had to replace it on both my X350s and my X351 (the same part is used on many JLR vehicles). On my X351 it was the full beam flashing every time I indicated right.

I opened one up to see if I could repair it, but couldn't. It looked/felt like it was the wear on the plastic parts allowing the slight play which caused the electrical wiper to move between the contacts unexpectedly.

It is easy to replace (remove the lower cowl under the steering wheel and it just clips out). You can replace with the same part from any X351, post-2008 facelift X350 with the silver end button, and similar age XFs. Be careful buying used - if there is any play in the stalk or ring at rest then reject it as it will either already be faulty or will be soon after fitting. New ones are not that expensive and should not have any play on the stalk.

C2Z5018 is the original, which is still available from stock at some dealers. It will eventually suffer the same fate but it will take years. WERS no is 8W83-13335-AA.
C2D53495 is the newer version, but I do not know what was changed.
The former can be had for around £90 new, £50 used. There are currently some of the first one listed as new on eBay item no. 272816038438 for £80.
