Default xj351 shark fin antenna....added what year? Why?

Still fretting over XJ351 purchase but only now noticed early cars do not have shark fin antenna on roof. What year was the fin added and why was it necessary? thanks for any help!

Matco, I can say that the 2016 MY cars have the shark fin. I THink it was done due to the amount of internet connectivity that the cars can possibly use.

Thermo and others, thanks for the quick replies. So, I would not be missing/any important radio/GPS functionality w/ the early production sharkfin-less xj351, is that correct? Trying to avoid paying an extra $5-10K for a later model car just to have perfect(as opposed to decent ) radio and internet connectivity.

Marco, can't tell you how the radio sounds. My car lived on a USB stick and a constant supply of new songs. Wish I could be of more help as I had a 2012 XJ. I have had my 2016 for 3 months now and only half way through the first USB stick and I drive an hour a day in the car.1100 songs down, another 1250 to go. gotta love no commercials.

On a side note, does anyone know how to make it play entire albums vice this alphabetical thing it does? I much prefer to listen to an entire album and while I can play an album, at the end, it stops and waits for you to select another album. Is there a way to make it just pick the next album in line and go? I have all my music arranged by artist and albums. But this car wants to play all songs beginning with A, then once that is done, with B........ I want you to play all the albums I have for band XXXXX, then move on to YYYYY

Thermo.....thanks again for input. Regrettably, I can b of zero help re. your problem w/the car playing the USB alphabetically as I also suffer thru that issue and am PO'd about it each time I play from the USB. I tried searching for a resolution but thus far have been unsuccessful. The closest I've come to solving the problem is to edit the song/album name and inserting "a", "b", "c",etc. as the first letter in the name. A laborious and inelegant solution but the only one availbel to one who is technologically challenged(sigh of resignation)....

In earlier models the radio antennas were integrated to the back window, what are elegant and smooth way, but don´t give as good reception as proper antenna. Also careless cleaning inside of glass can broke the wires.

For playing one album in row, make an folder for each album. It will play all songs in folder before moving next folder.

Vasara, that is true of the 2010-2012 cars. They will play an entire folder and then move on, granted, the played the main folder in alphabetical order and all the subfolders in alphabetical order, but the songs were 1 through whatever.. The 2013+ cars do not do that. They download all the song information and then organize it to be alphabetical unless you call out a specific album. Then it will only play that album/folder (in a random order) and then stop, waiting for you to pick the next album/folder. I have my USB stick arranged where the folders are the artists name and then the subfolders are the various album titles, with the songs numbered 1 through whatever in the subfolders. Maybe if I stick all my music in the harddrive of the radio, it will treat it differently. I am working on that. Not sure if I got it downloaded or not. Does anyone know how much space Jaguar gives us in this storage area?
