1997

Hi guys!

Scooted over here from X308 forum to pick your brains. Owned 89 XJS, 98 VDP, and 03 XJ8. Worked on all of them myself, and I am a commited DIY type. Since I sold my VDP, I've been looking for an XJR, and so it happened that a NICE 1997 appeared on the screen. It's just a blip at this point, but it's coming closer.

110K, repaint, with excellent interior, and cheesy rims with new tires. Not stock rims, but aftermarket cheese. I might be hooking up my OBD to it today, and give it "once over". Since I never drove one of these, I'd like to ask few things.

First and foremost: What should I look for? (noises, behavior, leaks, specifics about the model) I will check it out like I would ANY car (and specific for the Jag family), but I am not knowledgeable about this model.

Second: Wheels! (cheese HAS to go!) Would X308 wheels (Asteroids) fit on these?

Third: What are the known "potentially problematic" areas on this model?

And to answer YOUR questions in advance ("why this"?), let me just tell you that I am not a "modern" type, I like "vintage", I like to restore (anything!), and I like MANY old things (antiques, furniture, old guns, vintage horse tack), and I even shave daily with a straight razor (I'm sure you know the type!).

This beast was offered to me for a pocket change, and I am seriously considering it. Love the looks, love the straight six under the hood (looks almost like someone cut my old V12 in half!), and I can give it a good home.

So please, give me all your wisdom, and I thank you in advance.

OK,.....first I posted in the wrong forum, and then,......the "seller" flaked!
It must've been some halfa$$ed attempt to scam. I asked all the right questions, he said he will call YESTERDAY, and arrange the meeting,....so far, nothing!

Too many scammers, and some are not even good at what they do.
