Burr Walnut Restoration Work
 

Hi,

I need to get some of the Burr Walnut restored on my XJ12 but I'm surprised with the number of companies that don't want to know! lol

Maybe because it's more of a laminate rather than solid but I've contacted six companies now and they've all said they can't help me :(

Can anyone recommend any good companies on the UK? I suppose I could post to America if I have no option but would like to try and avoid it.

The wood is not bad just some clouding on the lacquer and the ski slope got wet so needs a good amount of work on it, the lacquer is ok but the edges of the wood are bleached. I assume the factory use wood dye and this has bled out slightly.

I have found a nearly new ski slope online and that might be an option, however as the car is a Daimler Century the other parts are bespoke to the car.

Hi Andrew,
An alternative ides for you. Talk to an antique furniture restorer, should be a few on Guernsey - these guys understand how to repair, colour match and re-laquer such veneers. Of course you'll have to remove and replace the trim yourself.

Thanks for the responses, I had seen the Myrtle page, thanks for the recommendation.

I did contact a few furniture restorers on the island but there are some others that I can try so I'll give it a shot.

I also contacted a restorer just outside St. Malo. His work looked amazing but he doesn't do modern cars which was a real shame.

I have found a nearly new ski slope and ash tray piece so I am tempted by that slightly. I found a website that sells the burr walnut veneers so I could play around with the old one after I've removed it to see what I can do, could be a fun project once the weather warms up a bit. However as some of you mention the issue is the colour matching, there is an element of dying into the wood for sure.

Anyway, one step at a time! :)
